chlorox Vbt - u mean like how viernes did his blooming shot on his video? :) I do the same thing without adjusting my lever at all by not pulling down the lever at all - I merely use the paddle to start the blooming. Only when it’s time to end the blooming, then I pull down the lever and immediately release it.
The Video was interesting, it gave me a few ideas! I quite agree your method can give the same results. Just a note to be careful using either method.
- when the piston is down and the paddle used to fill it, lowering the lever and immediately releasing risks the chamber being only partly full if you are too fast, or for some reason the chamber is filling slowly! I have actually seen (at exhibitions) the result of this and people nearly being hit by a fast moving lever. The risk here is doing it too fast without checking the gauge for preinfusion pressure (whatever is set).
- In the video, the risk period is only when the lever is down, for a short period it is on a mostly empty chamber which fills. It’s probably that the video method is a little safer. As the user can ensure they see some slight pressure in the chamber before release
- Also the potential risk in both methods of the grind being very coarse and the chamber emptying more than anticipated…an inexperienced user may not be aware of the ramifications.
It made me think that this could be an additional (automated) function choice on the Vostok/Future Evo control system. Putting the machine in control of the “bloom” phase. e,g, you pull down the lever as normal, the pump starts filling and at a preset pressure (could be 1 bar) stops and stays stopped…the bloom phase begins. The time of which can also be set. Then the pump runs again as per normal preinfusion pressure and the user can raise the lever.
Of course the safety concerns above still apply and the issue would be how to minimise them in software.
I might see if the testing can be lumped in with a couple of other things/ideas I’ve asked them to investigate, perhaps to demo at Host Milan in October.
- Lever Assist Mode (LAM)
- A shot without using the lever, but with a twist (of lemon), just a more sophisticated function than you might imagine. Making full use of the groups capabilities.
