Morning all,
Thanks for the invite to join - sorry it’s taken so long.
Quick intro:
I got into coffee because of others really. I’m a sucker gadgets, but most of all that aroma on a fresh grind/extraction. A family friend bought a bean-to-cup which started me off on the journey of discovery. From Various pod machines, to a Delonghi PrimaDonnaXS, to now a Fracino Ariete/Classico - which I totally dismantled (thanks Dave), and rebuilt all shiney (minus scuzz). I started with a Sage Pro grinder, which I very quickly moved on - and now have Super Jolly Electric, slightly modified.
Machinery is great, but without beans, it’s useless!
As an alternative to buying ‘Non-Fresh’ local beans, or waiting for deliveries, I decided to try my hand at roasting too. I spent about 18-24months roasting in a modified popcorn machine, which was okay - but the yield was poor (80-100g green), and the smell in my garage was worse (for 2 days after). So I upgraded slightly to a Behmor machine which is good for up to 400g, and can be roasted indoors with its afterburner feature, reducing escaping smoke. However, all is done underneath the extractor, so no problem!
What next, who knows?? I certainly get envy when I see some of those dual-boilers and beautifully built machines, but just can’t justify it at the minute. And don’t get me started on zero retention grinders!! Alas, I realise I’m luckier than some, and I’m supported by an understanding wife who is at the unfortunate end of some of my light-hearted responses.
What would I change… hmm, the speed at which I can get my coffee into the cup and the clean up afterwards - especially when we have visitors, as I end up the Barista for the evening, rather than sitting and enjoying the company!! lol, not really the end of the world.
Anyway, if I can help with anything, I’d be glad to - otherwise, be prepared for my banter….
Alex
