LMSC There is a video showing on osmios site how you can tip the unit up over the sink to empty the small internal storage tank for RO water. This will make flushing it out much easier.

LMSC hi, I did this a couple months ago, your plan is correct and Dave’s video links are all you need. It will take a bit of time though, can’t remember how long now, maybe 3 hours after all flushes etc. also a quick guide to the specifics involved here from osmio site:

One other thing I remember others had issues when they put more than 2.5L of water on during the sanitisation I think it leaked or overflowed

I think it kicks in automatically after a year. Makes sense too.

LMSC I believe it does kick in after 12 months, as the filters have to be changed at 1 year…Or if the Osmio senses the filtering is too slow, then it kicks in early assuming the filters are clogged, as in a high limescale area (sometimes this can be just the carbon block).

DavecUK Makes sense. It’s a good reminder to change after 1 year of use. The advantage of using the softened water in OZ is the readings are still very good indicating the filter is good for re-use. But, should change for hygiene reasons.

Look at my readings, after the filter change popped up.

Our unit turned to change filter after 13 months. It still reads 58 TDS, KH is 31.25 mg/l and GH is 13.43 mg/l.

DavecUK Am sanitising and changing the filters now.

The sanitising process suggests 4 × 2.5L water flush to remove the Milton solution from the unit (a) by leaving the existing blank filters at the back of the unit and (b) put only the new sediment filter in the pitcher.

It then refers to changing all new filters. However, there is no mention of flushing out water once the new filters are in. I am thinking if we should flush out 2 × 5 L water out after resetting and replacing with new filters.

The other choice is using step 1 and replace 1a with new filters and complete the change.

Please advise. Thx

LMSC after the new filters are in, as with any filter change, the system should be flushed around 5 or 10 litres

Which descaling product would I use ?

I have changed filters at the required time with Milton tabs etc’ but never descaled.

Sorry to resurrect the thread but are the filters fine to use past 6 months if the machine isn’t calling for them? Osmio seem to suggest changing them no later than 6 months. Will the water still be good for an espresso boiler?

Similarly what is the user guidance on descaling intervals?

Sure I’ve seen Dave speak/write about this before but I can’t find the info again.

pandabear I have just changed mine at the 18 month stage. The machine automatically tells you at the 12 month point regardless of usage. The filters if you test your TDS will probably go beyond 18 months depending on usage and water hardness but bacteria does build up as well.

That’s good to know, thank you. What is the top end TDS limit I should be checking for? It was at 25-30 when the filters were new and it’s now at about 50 odd.

pandabear I always ask @DavecUK about TDS levels. I have to admit I have never descaled. If you mean my machine, then the point of RO to me, is to prevent the need. I did not know you could/should descale your OSmio! I am in a relatively soft water area.
