That was quicker than I would have guessed but the are no rules.
I have one mate who turns over motorbikes like that and a cousin who is the same with wives.
It is cheaper with espresso machines. 🤑

I went to see a guy the other month.
He had 2 Decent coffee machines.

I had a demo of both.

Wasn’t impressed with the one that was branded Decent 😜😎. Very strange noises from it, no tactile feed back, looked like it was made in china!! 😎😜☕

On the other hand……

I had a very strange dream least night. ……

I took a long diversion on my way home from work.

Went to see another guy who showed me his all new all singing and dancing one arm bandit! It seems to make a decent Latte

When I arrived home there was coffee machine in my van.
An Evo 2, 2.
Just been outside to check and yes, there it is!!

Let the fun begin, when I manage to get the great lump of a thing out of the van 🏋️ (you dont get that issue with a Decent I’m sure!!)

Close but they’re made in Hong Kong. Decent are pretty open about their factory and you can take a look at videos showing each machine being hand-built and John’s commitment to producing a very high quality product. The aesthetics are certainly different from a more traditional machine, but I rather like that - to each their own!

Ah exciting times! I think you’ll like the DE1 Jake, it’s a fun machine. You should be able to access Diaspora now you have ordered you DE1, if not, contact John or Mirjam and they’ll be able to hook you up. I’m not sure where you’re based but I’m in Bristol. Very happy to meet up and give you a run through of the machine and how it works if you like. It’s quite different to most other machines I’ve used but worth the learning curve!

I know you jokingly mentioned about getting into filter coffee, one of the cool things about your new DE1 is Scott Rao and John have just come out with the Filter 3 basket and new profile, which should play well with your Duo if you did want to explore that further.

Adrianmsmith I agree Adrian, there’s always room for good discussion on this forum. That’s the reason I like it so much, it rarely descends into hostility. People seem to respect others opinions even if they differ from their own. Im looking forward to hearing about your new machine too once you’ve got it set up 🙂

tbf the pump noise has been the only thing thats put me off over the years, but thought feck it, there a clever machine, they look complex, but once you get used to reading it, they are not actually that bad.

Just went for the de1pro, but specced oak handles, black machine. Nothing fancy

From speaking with a few people the extra for the XL isn’t needed really.

Should be here next week, looking at the ups it’s in the UK already.

Will be a learning curve, few differences namely temps at the puck not the boiler, so in that sense like the Evo with it’s group temp, biggest thing I noticed going back to the Bianca from the Evo was temp stability. The Evo is just solid.

Side note there’s a white Bianca on Bella barista for £2k

The water tray side of things is a porcelain tray, will see how that goes, I seem to have a love hate for water holders. Still hate the Evo door. Why I fancied a Vostok but my kitchen is too small.

Biggest factor is the Mrs will use the decent, in her words oh that’s cute 😂

Cuprajake From speaking with a few people the extra for the XL isn’t needed really.

Spot on. The XL was developed solely for situations where the back of the machine was customer-facing. They’re identical machines aside from the XL is slightly deeper due to it having a back panel to hide the cables. It also has a different steam wand in the style of a Slayer wand, ostensibly to allow ghost steaming.

The other interesting option with the XL model is to have it countersunk (see video below), which I think looks really cool, but my wife would kill me if I started taking chunks out of the kitchen counter top…

I like this option as you can just sling it in the dishwasher once a week, no biofilm or other gunk building up. It feels nicer having less plastic in the water path too.

This was one of the biggest reasons I went with a Decent to be honest. I knew my wife would never want to mess around with a lever in the morning. With the DE1 she can just walk up and push a button and get a great shot of espresso. With the new DSx2 skin I have also set it up so it defaults to my wife’s favourite profile every time it loads up, so she doesn’t need to play with the settings. As she likes a slightly hotter flat white in the morning, it is set to cut the steam automatically once the milk gets to 68’C. I like my milk a little cooler, and can change the milk temperature back to 62’C with another tap on the profile page.

I hear that Spro gave Decent poor reviews until John cut a deal with him. Now he likes it. I don’t rely on the opinions of Influencers, who often don’t disclose who is paying them. Or who post sensational videos as clickbait. Or websites with sponsored backing.

I do rely on folks who actually tried a machine and appear to have unbiased opinions on it, such as here. Or Dave, who takes a factual engineering approach in his reviews and does disclose when he is retained by a manufacturer. And is still straight up in his comments, good and bad.
