I am in lust. Would have been very very tempted had I seen that on Kickstarter at that price. Am sure it will be a lot more retail.

I considered getting this, but it being battery powered put me off to be honest. Does look beautiful though.

They're still available on indiegogo. Looks beautiful I agree. I'm waiting for early reviews as beta testers reported some issues like grind retention in the funnel, excess static, etc. Then if those are fixed to convince myself I need to upgrade on the eureka…

Battery powered?! How was that determined the most appropriate course of action? I appreciate 3kg per charge is probably about 3 months for most people but still… As above, it’ll be interesting to see how it deals with the usual grinder related complaints like static and retention.

Well i wouldn't worry about battery, have you seen an sds drill go through concrete 😂 Its a stunning little grinder, while not a fan of the sweepers, remind me of cable ties .. But it could be a little gem.

@"Cuprajake"#p14108 Your point about the drill got me thinking… Presumably if it’s not running on constant voltage, as the battery wears down the motor rpm will reduce, as with a cordless drill? EDIT: I just read the blurb and apparently it uses an ‘intelligent battery management system’ to regulate the power to the motor so it’s consistent as the battery drains. I wonder if the cordless approach was to avoid having to consider different voltages worldwide and ship the same product globally.

@"Ernie1"#p14125 It's an induction motor I think, so shouldn't slow down. my concern would be about the batteries…are they replaceable, did they use 18650 cells etc.. as they will have a limited lifespan. They have not stated the grind times by speed ranges either?

I got some good news and some bad news, My Deva Arrived today and was excited to test it.

The Bad news is… it’s DOA even though it seemed to be tested prior to shipping.

Guess something got knocked out inside while in shipping.

It’s a beautiful piece of construction but sadly at the moment it will be a fancy paper holder.

Well contacted the team at Kopiconcepts, Prompt support and they confirmed it needs to be shipped back and they kindly provided everything to ship it back.

@DavecUK Nope it has a bit more charge. Tried troubleshooting it and didn’t work out.

Checked every bit of it, the motor would not turn on.

While I am happy with the service, I just wished it worked… it’s a damn fine piece of mechanical engineering.

Quality wise in the metal work is way above it’s price point.

Just to update, Had issues with UPS in shipping the unit back with the battery and worked it out.

Kopi team received it one week back and got the charging port fixed. They found also that the port was causing a short which led to the unit not running on command (Usually companies just say we fixed it without giving out details).

Fixed within a week and they just shipped it a couple of days back.

UPS tracking gives it arrival by midweek next week!

Can anyone help this layman understand why it’s not working with the SSP MP burrs please? I’ve read that the burrs need to be closer together when single dosing but then how come the MP burrs are fine in other single dose grinders?

Seeing photos of this grinder here, it’s actually much nicer looking than I thought from marketing photos and videos. I’d be keen but I’m using SSP MP burrs in my current setup and would want to continue using them.

Newdent just to add to this, apparently the MP burrs will work but grind times are approx 60s which is why they don’t recommend. Here is their response:

On fine grinds, little distance between the burrs, no space to “grab” the beans because of the cutters design and no pressure from a loaded hopper = long time to grind as the bean has to be “sliced” to a much smaller size first, before it can enter the space between the burrs and be ground.

CoyoteOldMan does it explain that though? Because my DF64 single doses espresso grind with the burrs in 20 seconds. Others have speculated that it’s to do with the central shaft and lack of auger.

Oh, yes - I’m sure it’s the whole design, not the burrs “by themselves”; as you say, there’s quite a lot of obstruction and nothing to propel the beans forward.

CoyoteOldMan yes you’re right, it’s a combination. I think the manufacturer has to be upfront and say it’s an issue with their design though as the burrs do with fine in other single dose setups.

If I’d known the grinding was slower instead of impossible with MP burrs I’d probably would have bought one a few weeks ago instead of my DF64!

Newdent When I had the DF64 with the OEM burrs, It used to grind around 20g of coffee in about 35-40 seconds.

When I installed the HU that went to 18s flat. Half the time easily. Never liked the MP espresso profile but never ordered them (Tried them at a buddy and were too clear for my taste).

Pure speculation: for sure the grinding profile is affected too if the beans/grind just stay and rub there in the chamber instead of flowing as they should.

What I’m starting to think is that 60 seconds is not that big a deal. I probably spend as much time if not more trying to bellows and purge my mignon. Unless the grinding profile changes, as @Petre speculates

I think like Dave mentioned, you really want all the beans slow feeding, not just the last ones. I’d imagine but I’m guessing, the volume of beans helps them through to begin with. I wonder if some shaping of the bottom carrier could help move the beans in when there’s less of them. Even if the manufacturer is unwilling to alter the grinder officially, I’m sure a creative person will come up with a solution!
