[upl-image-preview url=//i.imgur.com/ZiZpMg2.png] I think these guys are exaggerating how complex it is to make… Looks like a standard CNC milled piece with laser ablated holes…Nothing really worth that price tag. They must be making some fat profits from this.

IMHO Weber is starting to lose credibility with non sensical promotional copy such as this: "No more endless wiping, citric acid, or vinegar baths to remove grime. Use it, rinse it, wipe it, and it stays perptually clean. Since you aren't subjecting your basket to repeated acid baths, it will last virtually forever." Interestingly, in the five minutes that I copied the above from the Weber website the word "perpetually" with was replaced with "endlessly". Not sure it's much better. I am a fan of Weber products however I wish they would tone down the hype.

It’s crazy what people will buy, probably on brand name alone, so very much the Apple of coffee! I’m sure anyone with a good knowledge of machining could knock something like this up for a lot less. I wonder if they’ll go to the level of VST and show the QC on the basket holes to prove uniformity. I’ll stick to my £30 basket and PF handle I have.

Alexvs agree 100%. I don’t understand how the price is justified based only on the idea that it’s easier to clean. Not better coffee, just easier to clean. Really? I’m stunned.

I agree, this is a product looking for a customer. There’s a few things I don’t like about it.

One piece construction, damage the bottom….in the bin
Want to use different baskets/sizes…no good
sharp top lip, instead of rounded….gasket wears faster
Looks very deep, so large headspace
Complete faff, papers and gauze, is this needed for it to work??…..coffee bars would laugh at this.
Price …..having a laugh
Trading on their name…which is being diminished IMO

Lasting forever is a bit rich. It’s not like baskets are forever wearing out. If you wash them straight away they can also stay “perpetually/endlessly” clean.

I wonder if they’ll try to release a similarly priced blind basket version, for the person with too much money.

I think there will always be customers for some of this stuff….I expect we will see people with these marvellous devices popping up on a forum near us real soon.

I remember the gold plated E61 groups….Sounded like a good idea…when I saw them, I thought they looked awfull. This was about 18 years ago now…don’t think any machines use them now.
