Just started to set my machine up and have found the touching the screen at the service position is not responding I have managed to get it to respond a couple of times but other than that it is just not working. The accept button does not always respond either. Anybody have any suggestions please.

I thought the same initially but later realised different functions require different amount of time for the area of the screen to be pressed. For instance, you need to touch the bottom right hand side to leave main menu and get to next menu with the profiles. If you press one of these once it simply selects that profile and goes back out automatically. You have to hold down a profile for I don’t know 7 or 8 seconds to go into that profile. You kind of get used to it after a while. I normally rest my hand on top of the frame and use my thumb to press the screen. It’s also more responsive when cold

I could not get the time to go up or scrolling through the dates I had to use the back button the forward button just did not respond.I am sitting here trying everything that I can.

My initial impressions are the same but I hope it’s just a learning curve as it’s not as a modern touch screen these days.

@"DavecUK"#p14366 It has improved it but still finding that getting into the temperature and then trying to adjust is ok going down but getting it to raise the temperature back it has done a couple of times but is just generally unresponsive still.

Definitely does not like that bottom centre section. It times out and goes back to main page. Luckily that way it has not altered what I lowered.

@"Meldrew"#p14377 might be worth removing the lif and checking the lead is pushed in…although that usually affects the display and lighting not touch sensitivity. If you have unusually dry hands, or not got the fingers on the top of the metal above is can sometimes be less responsive…do you have a video?

As I can drop the temperature or scroll back on time and dates etc. It has responded a few times but at the moment that part of the screen seems dead. I would assume if my hands were to dry then all the screen would be an issue. So you think it might be worth having a look inside

> @"Meldrew"#p14385 So you think it might be worth having a look inside remove just the top cover and with a torch have a look at the display connector, use a chopstick to press it down to just check it's seated. Can often be jogged loose in Transit. If that doesn't help, trace the ribbon to the black box in the electronics bay…remove the side panel open brain box cover and check it's seated properly in there. Vesuvius touch display not responding

OK imaghine there are 6 zones (well in fact they are), press in the middle of a zone, if you are at the very edge or just out it might not register.

If you count 1 to 6 left to right, zone 1 takes a second or so longer than the others to respond or used to. Long story. The zones may take a wile to respond so don’t tap, lightly touch (slight pressure and hold. A quick tap and it may not register…(mistouch prevention)

DavecUK I have been touching each zone lightly and holding on the zone also tapping. I can do another video showing this as you have said. I will try in a minute as I am charging my iPad at the moment as it has little battery left.

DavecUK Hope this helps Dave as you can see no matter how I touch the screen it is intermittently not responding. I can go back to it and it will go to the next page and alter parameters ok then it doesn’t respond again.

A video definitely better than a thousand words. As a 3+ years user I see immediately that you press it like a phone screen whereas I hold my finger against the screen lightly for maybe half a second for every press and have no issue with it responding.

PaulL I think I must have tried every possible combination of ways to get it to work to no avail. I have dismissed user error as some areas respond ok. It has been mainly the two centre top and bottom areas that have been the issue.I used to service catering equipment and had many hours of fun trying to get some of our oven touch screens to work. So luckily I have the patience. I was up at 05.30 as I could not sleep and first thing it did not respond kept trying left it for a while tried again and it responded ok. I have sent Paolo a message so he is aware. Just have to monitor it. Thanks for the feedback. When you have got to the stage that you are questioning your sanity another prospective is appreciated.

Sure and sorry to hear it, funnily enough I just tried all areas of my screen a few minutes ago to compare and sure there are one or two deadspots but nothing that impairs functionality. Good luck with it!

PaulL Deadspots are because the screen is older tech and Zoned into 6 areas that respond to touch. You have to ideally be in the middle of those zones. The top left zone takes a little longer than the others, or used to due to its usage as a long press zone, not sure it was ever programmd out.

I have been testing on and off since the crack of dawn today and it seems to be getting more responsive. It does have its moments though. I even warmed my finger and thumb on the group head which for a moment seemed to help.nothing conclusive. Just had the wife try and she is having better results. Still just the two centre points top and bottom

Because that’s the display that Gicar do that works with the super reliable 4 group commercial control box for that Gicar make. and when Gicar do requested programming for said box, they can work with that display….or the one used on the Vostok… That’s the way life is, and the display is very expensive for what it is.

Also, believe it or not, the display is actually quite reliable…very few failures considering the number of Vesuvius machines sold. I think he just has a rogue one?

Sham From What I have seen it Is a good quality screen. I have worked with some on ovens and it looks to be a superior unit to me. I am finding that the unit has been responding better. So whether it is me. I have seen people who have trouble with sensitivity using screens.Dare I say but my wife has had better response. My have to chop her finger off and keep that in my pocket.

DavecUK I am retired now. I was a service engineer on catering equipment. I was a electrician before that so have always worked with my hands manual work and using my brain now and then. The unit seems a lot better to me now. The reason why I initially was concerned was when trying to set it up I could not get it to set time and day I had to scroll backwards in Italian to set the day of week but could not scroll forward to set things. So I thought there might be a problem. The wife can touch it and I would say 8 times out of 10 gets a result first time now. I am struggling at times.

DavecUK As you say it comes with a warranty and Paolo from what I have seen is committed to his product and customer, so I have no concerns. I will let him know Monday how things have gone over the weekend. I did let him know as you suggested by email. I have deleted two of the videos as I was concerned that Paolo thought that I was stating that the product was not good. Quite the contrary. I was originally looking at the ecm but the frame is not stainless but is well laid out. Looking at the Vesuvius it is to me well superior not that I am in any way an expert. After working on many pieces of catering equipment,ovens dishwashers and numerous other units oh and still boilers. I do appreciate something well made and put together in a good way. So am loving my Vesuvius, well impressed. Just got to learn to make good espresso now.

Sham It looks fine to me and it is supported by Acs. Surely looks are a personal thing. It does the job fine. I believe the issue is partly down to the skin on my fingers. Things such as calluses hard skin can make your finger less conductive.

Meldrew Calluses definitely interfere. I’ve got hard calluses on the fingertips of my left hand (guitar!) and operating the screen is a nightmare with that hand. If you haven’t already, give the screen a good clean and see if that improves things. Also see if it works any better when your fingers are a bit moist. Maybe you are just non-conductive. :-)

Sham Never seen those. I just googled them didn’t even know they existed. I must admit I was thinking about the styluses they use for the iPads etc. But the screen seems a lot better at the moment so hopefully I am ok now.
