DavecUK I am retired now. I was a service engineer on catering equipment. I was a electrician before that so have always worked with my hands manual work and using my brain now and then. The unit seems a lot better to me now. The reason why I initially was concerned was when trying to set it up I could not get it to set time and day I had to scroll backwards in Italian to set the day of week but could not scroll forward to set things. So I thought there might be a problem. The wife can touch it and I would say 8 times out of 10 gets a result first time now. I am struggling at times.
Vesuvius touch display not responding

Meldrew Well you have 2 years parts warranty, so I wouldn’t worry about it…..See how it goes.

DavecUK As you say it comes with a warranty and Paolo from what I have seen is committed to his product and customer, so I have no concerns. I will let him know Monday how things have gone over the weekend. I did let him know as you suggested by email. I have deleted two of the videos as I was concerned that Paolo thought that I was stating that the product was not good. Quite the contrary. I was originally looking at the ecm but the frame is not stainless but is well laid out. Looking at the Vesuvius it is to me well superior not that I am in any way an expert. After working on many pieces of catering equipment, ovens dishwashers and numerous other units oh and still boilers. I do appreciate something well made and put together in a good way. So am loving my Vesuvius, well impressed. Just got to learn to make good espresso now.
Meldrew Calluses definitely interfere. I’ve got hard calluses on the fingertips of my left hand (guitar!) and operating the screen is a nightmare with that hand. If you haven’t already, give the screen a good clean and see if that improves things. Also see if it works any better when your fingers are a bit moist. Maybe you are just non-conductive. :-)
Meldrew I have one of those capacitive touch screen pens, but unfortunately my V has been decommissioned since October 2019 after I replaced the heating element Gasket. With other machines I have had to review (engineering reviews, I still have not had a chance to put it back on the counter.
I’m also basically Lazy, so once a machine is on the counter, it doesn’t tend to move off easily.
Gagaryn I definitely am conductive as I have had my fair share of electric shocks in my lifetime.lol. I have given the screen a good clean. Cuprajake I have made a both milk and an espresso which was a bit bitter so I Have set a profile for a straight 30 second at 9 bar to get me started and to learn slowly but properly how to dial in. I have been reading all I can and learn but it’s retaining it all. I have been busy would you believe so have not had as much time to do things. Out all day yesterday at the Mother in laws who is 96 doing quite a few things ,so yesterday was virtually wiped out. It is what it is. DavecUK I dare not ask how many machines you have to play with. I am sure you did say once. I am surprised that you have not got the Vesuvius up and running, I suppose your spoilt for choice. I will definitely get one of those styluses and see. Also less finger marks.more likely buy one and leave it under the machine unused knowing me.
Yeah, its hard when you just want to play.
What temp setting? Perhap youd better with the lever profile as it will extract less at the end.

I did watch a vid saying its actually very hard to over extract

Cuprajake The temp I left at 94. All the profiles on my unit had on stage 7 a 90 second at 9 bar except profile 1 where it was 2 bar for 90 seconds. As I was unsure I stopped it at a total of 45 seconds but I think my grind was to fine as the brew head was showing 12 bar at one stage. That’s why I thought I would start afresh. Then move onto a lever profile once I was happy. I will have to have a look at a lever profile to move onto next.
Im not up to speed on the Vesuvius profiles.
Ill have a nosey after.
I thought they came preset.

They just seemed strange so did not use. I have googled lever profiles but strangely did not find any to copy. I saw someone put that you can download the Decent ones but did not see any to actually download.
I’ve been using profile 1 mostly so far and am totally enjoying the results. It’s an Italian (dark) style roast to be fair so will probably tweak some when I move to medium roast in a couple of days. I will keep profile 1 as is, and tweak the other profiles for medium/light etc. I would be delighted to hear others ideas on it, I still haven’t had a chance to get properly into it yet as I’ve been working flat out but there hasn’t been a bad shot out of it
Im wondering if they have been at a show they could of been played with etc
