Yes, I don’t need any at the moment, but at those prices , sub £20 for a kg of 87+cup score, I think I’ll be tempted. I’ll need to order 2kg to take it over £20 for free delivery 🤷♂️ I’m glad I bought a vacuum machine thingy from Lidl last week 👍

I was tempted to buy a KG as I never had any beans from these guys. Reminded myself not to buy until we polish off ~4KGs stored in the freezer! 😂

I'm halfway through a bag of their Eratoi and this is too good an offer to pass up. I'll just have to deal with the scalding I get when two more bags turn up in the freezer!

FadedFrontiers I did get good coffee after getting dialled in etc but it wasn’t as advertised/expected, so much so I had to wonder if it was a totally different bean!! I was expecting a medium roasted Guatemalan, what I got was light roasted beans that were very very fruity! No hassle, they will be drank!!

Edit: for clarity, the coffee I’m discussing is not from Django but a different roaster

Waitforme yeah I think it’s usually the suppliers who give the scores but there are some exceptions. Either way it’s been suggested that these scores are often higher than they should be.

Just taken delivery of a kilo of Django’s Santa Ana anaerobic natural. Unfortunately I ordered it just before the discount code! Nonetheless I order from Django regularly as their coffee never disappoints and the kilo price is compelling. I meant to order the Chelbesa again on discount but missed the deadline as I was out yesterday. But I have a kilo of Santa Ana to keep me going until next month anyway.

Went for 500g of the Chelbesa. Would have gone for a whole kg but even 250g of unpleasant coffee can be a struggle to get through, so even 500g feels risky! The coffee sounds good, I very rarely have an Ethiopian I don’t like.

Only once, had a bad batch from RedBank. The coffee tasted really strongly of chemicals. I’d had the same coffee a lot in the past so knew what it was meant to taste like but they didn’t want to know, so that’s the last time I used them! Shame.

Got my Chelbesa today. Did a 12g cupping. Definitely some fruitiness there but definitely roasted a bit darker than I’m used to at the moment so some bitterness there. Will reserve judgement until I make proper coffee with it but found the bitterness very overpowering until completely cold and then the fruits came through. Thought the beans seemed less dense and larger than I’m used to with an Ethiopian.

Two flat whites with the Chelbesa today and they were delicious. Ground at my go to setting for Ethiopians, so no surprises there.

Didn’t get any blueberry tasting notes, which is a shame as that was what I was looking forward to the most but definitely fruity. What a bargain.

Waitforme well, interested to hear others experience. I find that if lots of fruits are listed in the tasting notes there’s a high chance you won’t get them all.

I’ve only had blueberries on two coffees ever and one was a microlot that sold out immediately. If anyone knows of a good blueberry coffee please let me know!

Ethiopian Harrar Longberry, very rare not to get blueberries from that coffee when roasted correctly.

DavecUK thanks, I’ll have a search for that one! I’ve had blueberries with an Ethiopia Ana sora in the past.

Pulled a couple of shots with the Eratoi and they were very juicy but not overtly acidic, very tasty. Look forward to trying out the Chelbesa next, thanks for the recommendation.

Dusk I no longer get bitter after taste of bergamot after dropping the temperature a bit. It’s a good coffee but won’t taste good with milk. It isn’t a standout bag.

LMSC What temp are you brewing at?

I have struggled with consistency a bit with the eratoi, but it is very nice.

Temperature isn’t something I’ve experimented with much at all, but perhaps should do a bit more.

I certainly don’t feel ready for flow control, plenty to get better at before then.

I don’t always get the taste of blueberries even when I eat a whole punnet of them! Maybe it’s a blind spot on my taste buds but I find them pretty bland as a fruit. Hoping to taste a hint of them in a coffee seems odd to me. I like those natural coffees that taste like strawberry milkshake with lime, or Rumtopf, stone fruits in booze etc.

PortafilterProcrastinator 90C for group and 98C for the brew boiler. This is for light roast and medium light roast.

Edit : 94C / 100C - 102C produces too bright a cup, which we don’t prefer unless we cut with milk?

PortafilterProcrastinator I’m finding that paying attention to flow rate over the shot has increased my consistency no end. I use my acaia scales to do it, use the app on my phone. It’s not as much faff as it sounds.

I’m currently running my Minima at 94, but not sure what the comparable would be on the leva given how vastly different they are.

Newdent Thanks. Investment in more coffee gear is off the table for some time, which will hopefully push me to get the nest out of what I’ve got.
