LMSC Very good deal again. I have 3.5 KGs of standard coffee and about 1.25 KGs of decaf. So regretfully, I will pass. Thx for sharing.
dutchy101 Yep. I’ve just ordered a kilo from Smith Street (half a kilo of decaf and 2 × 250g bags). I’ve already got 3 kilos in the freezer. I’m actually quite tempted by the Django Brazil offering Rancho Grande but need to just say no.
dutchy101 LMSC No - unfortunately not. I ordered as I needed some decaf for my wife. I usually go for Extract Sugarcane, but that can get a tad expensive without a code. I saw some favourable reviews of the Smith St. Five Arches decaf on here and thought I’d give it a go. A kilo comes to £22.50 and it was free delivery for over £25, so I decided to go for half a kilo of the decaf and then give the Don and the White Peak a go.
LMSC dutchy101 Five Arches decaf is very good. First time drinking it as I post. You need at least 3 weeks rest; @dfk41 recommended this decaf.
dutchy101 LMSC @dfk41 recommended this decaf. Yes. He also put me onto the Extract Sugarcane so when I read his recommendation for the Five Arches I thought I’d give it a go
LMSC Knluk No, I can see it. https://www.djangocoffeeco.com/collections/coffee-beans-online-order-coffee-online/products/uganda-mbata
Knluk LMSC I mistook that you referred to the sugarcane. Anyway, would you recommend any of these for easy dialling in? Thanks.
LMSC Knluk I am sorry, I won’t know as I never had them before. If you prefer low acidic coffee, I am not sure if anything fits the description. Brazilians are mostly less acidic and on the sweeter side. It is a medium roast and I will have reservations about the flavour. Take a look and see if you would like to take a punt. 😊

PortafilterProcrastinator LMSC Crazy prices. I’ve got a kilo of Kabira and a small bag of the decaff on its way already. The Kabira sounds delicious. I’ve never brewed decaff but my wife’s off caffeine for a few weeks so I need to learn!
LMSC PortafilterProcrastinator Kabira sounds delicious. I’ve never brewed decaff but my wife’s off caffeine for a few weeks so I need to learn! I will pass this Mbata. I also have Kabira resting. Have 2.25 KG standard coffee and 1 KG decaf resting. Won’t buy until I am down to the last 0.75 KG. I don’t like brewing decaf. It’s mainly for espressos, americanos and flat whites.
PortafilterProcrastinator LMSC Don’t like decaff because of the result or because it is more finickety that normal? I am expecting a steep learning curve!
LMSC PortafilterProcrastinator steep learning curve Nothing steep about this. Keep the same temperature, grind finer and pull normal. I like about 1:1.5. It will be darker than the standard bag. We all like it as an evening or after dinner coffee without / with milk.
PartySausage I got a kilo of the Decaf. I’d be interested in your thought’s on it. It was described as a light roast, which was what got my attention but I feel it’s a little underdeveloped & thin, which isn’t working that well in milk drinks for me and is when I predominately drink decaf.
PortafilterProcrastinator PartySausage LMSC Mine should arrive tomorrow/ Thursday, so probably wont open until next week. I’ll let you know my thoughts. I note what LMSC says, but I wonder if it is worth upping the temp if the roast is lighter. Plenty to experiment with!
LMSC PortafilterProcrastinator up the temp The temperature settings for the decaf would be similar to the roasts as in standard bags, but grinding finer than we would normally. This will be the normal / default settings for me. On our lever, I keep 6C difference between the brew boiler and the group. I wouldn’t hesitate to change the temperature by 1 or 2C from my default, if required.
