Anyone know where Skuma are with their RO Machine and if they ever delivered a test product to a volunteer on CFUK? I know they raised the money on indiegogo but things went quiet so was just wondering how they got on

All on schedule apparently. Test units were sent out and they took on feedback and redesigned certain features / functions - like increasing from 3l to 4l tank. I've bought one and there was a live demo last weekend. Expecting delivery in June / July. Really looking forward to receiving it. But still need to work out where it's going to go.

That was my original understanding of your introduction on that forum (9th August 2021) - I understood it was a crowdfunding campaign but I personally wanted feedback from a known reliable coffee user so never took it to the next stage Using poor water for 10 months was not an option for me so I got the Osmio and have loved it ever since including throwing our kettle away The whole Skuma situation went quiet hence my question

@"Uncletits"#p18460 since we had not yet developed the coffee concentrate and since we were already having some of our backers come to the office to test Sküma, we decided not to send the units to the CFUK volunteers for now. That said, we’ve recently worked with a few coffee guys and we have a formulation we are pretty proud of. We’ll do the announcement soon!

This is great news, as long as the formulation to be used in espresso machines is non-scaling, I might be your next customer! 😊👍 But the non-scaling factor becomes irrelevant for pour overs, as there’s no boilers and above boiling point temperatures involved.

Also, do you know how much the filters will cost, or the infusions? Also, would it be possible to replace the infusions on the fly, or have a “blank” infusion? For instance, can I keep the “hydration boost” infusion for everyday drinking, and replace with the “coffee balance” when filling up the coffee machine, or have no infusion if I simply wat pure RO? Will it require flushing? I’m very close to pulling the trigger, but would like to know a bit more before I commit. Many thanks.

Long story short: We’d started shipping the units and noticed that a whole lot of issues started appearing due to the units being shipped cargo. We’ve then gone back to the drawing board and addressed all the issues. We are now about 100% of the units but we are currently shipping the units in a controlled way to ensure there are no new issues. We’ve also started selling a few units to maintain some revenue coming into the business.

They are definitely shipping, the whatsapp group has quite a few very simplistic reviews from people who seem happy with their units and issues/queries are being dealt with. There were some issues with the initial batch and things not working after shipping, they seem to have a fix for this. They appear to gradually be picking up pace on the remainder of the devices now they have reworked them and done a “slow start” on postage to ensure they are fixed.

I did order one from the website (i.e. after the crowdfunder) and am looking forward to mine arriving, although I’m not expecting it this month. I have to say I was a little frustrated with the lack of comms (zero updates via email because I bought via the website) but it appears that was an oversight and that there are regular comms with backers.

My unit arrived today, I have set it up and just quickly tested the functions. I realised I didn’t ever order a TDS meter or the drop test kits so I have now purchased those and am awaiting them arriving next week. Initial impressions are that it is relatively easy to use and I can definitely “taste” the difference from tap water to RO to RO+infusion (currently I only have the hydration infusion). I didn’t seem to have the knack of stopping the water in inifite mode or when I’d selected too big a volume for my receptacle(!) I think I need to not press the touch sensitive buttons with the tip of my fingers. I was a little surprised at the temperature reading holding my thermometer (ETI Thermapen) “in stream” when max temperature was selected as it seemed far lower than expected but I will try again with that tomorrow.

cjbailey1 interested to hear your experience with the max temp. The only way I’ll get sign off from my wife (once I’m back on coffee) is if she can have tea with it and so it needs to do close to boiling.

This is my first foray into moving away from bottled water and I feel good about my decision. So far so good, the ability to switch between pure RO and reminarilised water at the touch of a button is great. I wish I had actually looked at the dimensions as it is fairly large and I’ve already suffered the “and where is that going to live” lecture.

It’s a bit disappointing that as an original backer and in Phase 2 I’m finding out that retail customers are getting their machines before I’ve got mine.
