Have you checked inside to see if the connectors are OK for the left LED, perhaps the entire led is displaced and hanging inside the machine

Patrick Hi again.. May ask about the size of the hexagon screwdriver? Mine are too large or too small…so that I cannot open the case to put the led into the correct place.

I don’t remember, I have a little kit I use and I just grab one that fits. I use any magnetic bit handle I have lying about, you can pick up the handles in a pound shop.

If you mean the screw at the bottom-middle-back of the machine, it’s a 2.5mm hex. This Precision set from Draper (Stock no.09550) has it, as well as many other bits - I find it really useful.

Gather from BB the current Mara X price of 899 is down to having a lot to shift. My conversation with them was like Rolo’s, the Mara X is great value but the Profitec 400 is worth the extra for the build quality assuming you have the extra £300. The little I know about the Mara and HX machines has come from watching Daves’ videos (must have watched them too many times as I realise I know about his footwear, trousers and floor coverings from reflections off the chrome), the 400 looks to be a traditional machine with cooling flushes without the clever temperature management and steam boosts of the Mara X. Knowing nothing ahout marketing i just find it odd that launching a new machine the only review available is in German on a pre production machine where again the most important thing featured was the coloured disks.Think a trip to BB is required to take a look. Still, I have ordered my Niche Zero which means I’ve got a month to make my mind up on the coffee machine.

Hi I received my Profitec 400 2 days ago so a little early to tell. On first impressions I am very pleased with it. Top quality machine built well and performs faultlessly so far. The only thing I am going to change is the 2 hole steam tip for a 4 hole one which Im used to. I will post more when I’ve managed to use it more

As my Niche is arriving a couple of weeks earlier than expected, M25 permitting, tomorrow it’s a trip to Bella Barrista to decide between the Mira X and the Profitec 400. While I think the 400 looks better and more solid can’t help but wonder if the X is a little more technically advanced when it comes to temperature management which might make life a little easier for an E61 novice like me. Will be taking a tape as not sure the 400 actually has the height between drip tray and portafilter to fit scales and anything taller than a shot glass but it does have feet that won’t gouge our corian worktops. Really not sure which one I’ll come home with.

And I’ve come home with the Profitec 400, side by side the Profitec looked better than the Mira X, that said, on opening the box the railing on the cup tray hasn’t been properly welded and is adrift on one side, perhaps German build and quality control isn’t quite as good as its made out to be, not what I expected. If you ever visit Bella Barista quite a good deli cafe on site and a great emporium with lots of locally made reasonably priced gifts.

And this morning a replacement cup tray arrived. I didn’t doubt the problem would be resolved but didn’t expect it to be sorted quite so quick. Top marks to Bella Barista. Hopefully over the weekend I’ll find the hours to commission it and dial in the beans so I can actually use it. Have fitted some sliders to the feet as advised, while I don’t think they’d gouge the worktop they were leaving marks.

How are you getting on with the 400? Still very limited information about the machine.

Interested in the temperature stability and what bar you get for steaming milk? As I’m a flat white drinker.

Is it missing the features of the maraX?

Getting on fine, with the four hole steam tip and on the highest setting it steams milk very well, the highest setting is 1.5 bar and it drops to about 1. My latte art is awful, it mostly looks like a mushroom cloud on better days a tulip but others with this machine can produce proper results. I start it up on the lowest setting, that needs no flushing, moving to the highest setting the pressure rises very quickly ready to steam. This machine is fine for me, for those who can tell the difference between coffee brewed one or two C apart then I think they might want something more than a 400 or a Mira X.

Good you don’t need a cooling flush. Sounds similar to the MaraX steam boost only you do it manually. I would predominantly be making a flat white 1, sometimes 2 double shot flat whites. I spoke with BB and they said they’ve had allot of repairs for the MaraX. I’m not sure how much this has influenced them choosing to stock the main rival instead now.

How do you find the Vibration pump sound? Did you compare it to the MaraX when you visited BB?
