HVL87 - that steam seems rather wet overall. The initial purge can sometimes have quite a bit of water depending on how much condensation there is there, but, afterwards, it should really be rather “dry”.

@Abdulaziz - Another test you can do is, when you steam milk, weigh it before steaming and after steaming. Note the difference. That will be how much water has been added. I’ll do the same with my machine tomorrow (Lelit Elizabeth) and then you can have a reference.in my opinion, the steam on my machine is rather dry.

HVL87 well here something new. I changed the tip to the 3 holes .. it performed better than the 2 holes 🤔

Abdulaziz that does look a little better although it’s hard to tell. Maybe try cleaning the holes in the two hole tip?

This is pretty good. In comparison from back in the day, when I had my Profitec 700, I recorded 33g of injected water after steaming. That machine had a rather “wet” steam, and it had a 4 hole steam tip.

Cuprajake Quite similar with my Vesuvius. 250g of milk, about 270g total. It’s important to heat the circuit first but you don’t need to purge at full power. Just take the first condensed water gently in a jar and afterwards keep it running barely opened for 6 or 7 seconds. Clean and effective.

?Thats not a purge! You have to remove everything in the arm, which takes 3 seconds plus, then it is perfectly dry!

Hi all,

Occasional hiss heard today. It went but came back briefly - like at warmup, but had been warm for about 4hrs at the time. What with machine at 3 months of age I think it’s time for an inspection. Kind of dreading this because of the weight, plumbing and pain taking off the side last time. May be a stupid question, but does the top come off independently - suspect/hope the answer is yes and that it’s just 4 top/corner screws?

The top does come off independently….hopefully it’s nothing too serious. Hit us up with some clear photos. It’s a memory metal vacuum breaker, so unlikely to be that?

P.S. When using Frankenstein, I never actually put the 4 screws back in….seemed easier that way! shhhh…

Cool/thanks - it’s a Similar sound, and it did come and go, but after being on for 4+hrs which makes me think possibly needs a tighte somewhere. Not super worried, but sensible to have a look see anyway I think. Cool/thanks - will book some time in my head. Am thinking should drain the service boiler at intervals, but probably leave that till 1yr old or similar I guess..

I lifted the lid on mine the other day. Lifting the wire rack there are 8 Allen key bolts, all the same size, though peculiarly, they are fitted 2,2,1 and 3 around the 4 corners!

dfk41 I think only 4 hold the lid on..but Daniel will see them, handy to have a mirror on a stick and a torch..but need to be careful if the machine is on!

4 screws to remove the top, the 2 on the right to remove the top-side of the right panel. That leaves 2 more, which I think on the left top. If correct, they are perhaps to remove the steel frame to the right of the water tank. I am still not at home to check. May be, @danielpugh can validate, if he were to open the top this week end. Thx

Service boiler doubts

We came home after 2 weeks; flushed 700 ml water from the brew boiler; flushed the service boiler twice (bring it to the set temp of 130C, switch off the service, switch off the machine). The full flush of the service boiler yeilded each approx. 860ml of water ; of course plenty of steam also came from the HW tap.

The manual says, the full flesh from the service should yield 1.4L. I had 61%. Is it normal?

Before and after steaming milk stat

Vesuvius tip - 3 holes
Weight of milk before steaming: 330g
Purges wand for 5 to 7s
Steam milk, about 40s seconds.
Weight of steamed milk after steaming: 3699 (39g of injected water).

The added water is rather large
The stream isn’t dry. It wet, although purged for 5-7s.
I do find a drop or two water dropping after purging. I wonder, if it requires a longer purge.

After steaming, I wipe the surface of the wand and do a very steam a glass of hot water for 2-3s in a cycle of 3-4 times.

I am wondering if there are any hidden issues with the service boiler.

LMSC 860 ml from the service boiler of 2.3 litre would only be a 37% boiler fill, there is no way your boiler could have that little water in it….and no way anyone could make a steam probe length error like that. They will all be precut for Minimas and Evos at the same length for about a 70% fill, it might vary a bit but not that much.

I suspect there is some error you have made, or the boiler wasn’t fully warm…purging needs to heat up all the pipes so nothing condenses in them when you steam…this means not purging until no water comes out but a bit longer. There should also be an expectation that once the steam boiler has come up to temp from cold, it’s still loosing heat at quite a rate for a while a things warm up, so you will be able to steam, but for max steam performance you may need to wait. It can also be why the purge bought out less water than you expect.

Set steam boiler to Max temp, let it come up to temperature wait 15 minutes, then try draining it….same for checking added water for steaming.

Don’t forget that you’re steaming more milk than previous examples. In percentage terms you’ve added 11.8% water compared with around 8.2% on the Lelit machines. Maybe steam a similar amount to compare.

Also not sure what temperature everyone is steaming to.

I’ll be draining my Minima service boiler soon so I can measure the boiler fill level.
