dfk41 I remember quite clearly, when this debate first reared its head on CFUK. It was around Xmas 2013 and the result was that we were told emphatically by Reiss, that over the Xmas break he had at length, trialled the fitting of a second spring. The result we were told, without doubt, was that a dual spring wrecked the taste of the lighter roasted coffee by exerting too much pressure and therefore was not to be used. It was allegedly made available as an extra for new sales at some ridiculous price of course but I doubt anyone ever bought one. The topic is discussed on the old Londiddly forum, here:
David, you are talking about this blog post. he was actually selling the entire upper group have for ££500+VAT…so £600. This is a ridiculous price. Especially as a twin spring kit would cost less than £30. I can’t think of a reason why the whole upper group part is required? It’s also on a “strictly no return” basis. one would be forgiven for thinking that he absolutely didn’t want anyone to buy them.

Interestingly there is a bit more history about the springs…
He was going to do it and did in the 2 group?

Then it appeared with only 1 spring no explanation. Note the spring hasn’t been turned to give a flat side to the lower spirals…which is done on the much more expensive (twice as much) LSM group to reduce “torsional twisting” and the risk of noise.

Finally the beginning of the twin spring reason….but in the very first image about how expensive a twin spring kit can be are the beginnings of the twin spring myth…from the magic man himself.
