the only immediate and easy fix I can think of is to get a thin, but strong steel washer that goes under the shower screen and is just wide enough to cover the hole..might work? Trouble is…. finding one, especially as the screens center hole has a pushed up edge, so the washer needs to have a large enough hole to avoid that part.

I might look and see if I can find a suitable washer and do a test on my machine…although mine has no problem, I can at least see if it works.

Possibly something like this, but I need to do some measurements next time I remove the screen to clean it.

If it works well, it might be something ACS can add as a standard part to the system, rather than try and get the hole really close to the bolt hole? Especially as it’s only 0.1mm thick 304 stainless?

I measured the distance from the hole to the tapped hole. It is about 6mm. Looking at the shower screen, that would place the hole in the flat area.

I did notice something while putting it back together. The shower screen does not fit inside the recess.

I need to find my calipers to find out what is out of spec. May just sand the screen to make it fit.

(The screen being flatter may be due to dosing 16g in the double basket. Not sure. Cheap part, may just replace with a new one. )

The IMS shower screens are thinnish but fairly strong. It looks as if yours might have been flattened by putting too much coffee in the portafilter, the centre cant flatten and digs into the coffee which is pushed to the edges. There it flattens the screen….which means it won’t fit in the recess.. As I said I dose 16g and it’s OK, I never see a screen or, have seen a screen imprint. However that height when tamped varies with coffee density. 16g of a very dense coffee won’t fill the portafilter as high.

Here is how mine fits.

It’s worth truing a test fit without the screw and see if it clicks in, as it’s possible the screen isn’t quite cantered, as there is a little slack in the hole for the screw ()as there has to be)..

Mine has a similar hole to hole measurement. I haven’t observed any corresponding puck disturbance.

The safety lever system works as expected with one notable exception: following a backflush, the exhaust valve occasionally takes extra time to close. Which means that no pressure will build in the chamber and the safety system will not function. I’ve found that I can hear a click about 30 seconds after I backflush which is likely the valve closing. If I pull the lever again before that, the pump activates for preinfusion but the water is diverted straight to the drip tray and the safety system wont function.

Probably a timer on the valve after the signal is received to keep it open? Backflushing with detergent is probably the only time I would pull shots under pressure and activate the release valve with a short enough interval to notice this.

No the exhaust valve doesn’t occasionally take extra time, it’s programmed to open for 30s to ensure the puck and everything drains down properly. The display flashes the brew time whilst this happening, when the exhaust valve closes it stops flashing. I still need to do a user guide.

I have asked if an extra function can be programmed in so if you press the middle button while this is happening you can cut the 30s wait short and be ready immediately. If it can be done it should be able to be done by an over the air flash via a mobile hot spot. It’s not super critical though unless your prepping and pulling shots inhumanly fast.

However when backflushing it can be a pain, especially when using the method I will advise in a user guide…because it simply takes longer. I am experimenting with 2 different backflush methods. to find the best one. However you won’t need to backflush very often, once every 6 months or longer.

I don’t think it is possible to unflatten the screen. Took a Dremel to the outside diameter. Now it fits very snuggly, with a slight interference fit. No screw required.

Now to wait 9 hours to test it out…

ManicAsif This is because your still classed as a new user, after a number of posts you’re automatically moved to full user status and will be able to see it. That part will no longer appear blank.

It’s all part of the entire automated anti spam/attack system I set up and why users pretty rarely see spam and to stop those disposable e-mails being spammed and causing a lot of work for other users. I take site security quite seriously, as I don’t have a lot of time to do manual administration.

That said the contact us button on the left menu may work for you….or just make a post or two.

am i right in assuming that if i don’t the opt for the safety system in the Gen2 ACS Evo leva, the pressure release system still works? (i.e. junks the excess once i have pulled my shot to the desired pressure (or weight) - or do I still need to pull the cup and replace with waster container?

Yes, that’s what they call it I think. Absolutely worth it IMO.

ManicAsif If you wanted an Evo quickly, you could speak to ACS about taking mine off my hands?

Would save both ACS and myself a lot of hassle I would imagine. No dramas if this is a bad idea.

My opinion for what it is worth.

The dose system is the only reason I decided to sell the V1 Evo. I was not really ready to sell.

Not sure I will use the end by time feature.

You have the option to turn it off and go “old school” . Why would you!! Joking aside, whilst dialling in is why you would.

Then there’s end shot by pressure and you have 2 quick select programmable set points . To me this is the game changer option.

If you find you are too fine and the shot is running slowly there’s the middle button to end the shot and dump early.

I would really recommend this isn’t considered an addition but a necessity!!

The great thing is as usual with the Evo ( and a contentious point to some who own lesser more expensive machines ), once dialled in you do not need the scales which is great as I prefer to brew direct to mug.

The safety system I will try just to see but I really do not see a need for it (so far and having not tried it).
