Kenyan Mikari by the Casuals from the freezer. It’s been there for a few months. The beans smelled great. This is a medium light - light for me. The photos were taken at the morning natural light.
I had 1.3 rotations in JX Pro - I had thought my zero point was zero and wanted to grind at 1.4. The zero point was actually at 1.
I knew straightaway the shot time is going to be longer and probably a bit under extracted. Good 15s for the first drop, which did not bode well.
The group was set at 93.0 C and the boiler was set 101; the shot was pulled with an 0.5C overshoot. The notes were pineapple for me.
The dosage was 18g, drawing about 44.3g into the cup and the shot lasted 45s at the 6 bars pressure. I think, it is longish for me.
I had very strong fruity acidity notes to drink as an espresso. I had cut with milk and it was fantastic to drink with milk.
I don’t have a large burr to compare. I can certainly state this grinder definitely lacks in the clarity department with medium light and light roasts. It had a light and smooth mouthfeel.
The puck suggests uneven extraction with black patches around the walls; as a result, the cup has had its’ share of sourness, which wasn’t noticeable at all. It wasn’t bitter either.
Sorry about the puck, which I didn’t remove properly.
I think I will loosen the grind to 1.4 or 1.45 for the next shot and see. Of course, comments and suggestions are welcome.
