DF83 - first impressions
My goodness! He looked in disbelief when the grinder before him defied the laws of physics. 18g in, 18.4g and the guy’s response: “that’s not right…” and he tries again turning the cup the other way! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣… and guess what? No change! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
can hardly hear it running

MediumRoastSteam Yes! I know…. 😊
MediumRoastSteam Thats a lot of money in my opinion!
dfk41 - I wholeheartedly agree! 😉😃👍
Well I just confess I took a plunge when noticed it last night …
I had the df64 against the niche and decided to keep the niche as the looks, workflow and lack of bellows was a clear win for me.
Tried a major a while ago and really enjoyed it but it was too large for my designated area therefore decided to give this a go! Considering getting mazzer burrs to replace straight away .

prezes - ok. A few questions… 😉
The df83 has bellows too…. Won’t that annoy you, given the workflows between the 83 and 64 are essentially the same?
How was the taste in the cup between the df64 and the niche? I take you also preferred the Niche?

MediumRoastSteam yes it does have the bellows and it might get on my nerves. I remember having to blow and blow the df64 to get grounds out.
To be fair I am just curious and fancy trying it out. If I won’t like will have to sell it.
My taste buds are not refined enough to pick up all the minor differences but tried quite a few cups with both grinders and both my partner and I agreed Niche were more to our liking.
Will most likely still be the case this time so will appreciate the Niche even more

For an 83mm flat single doser, it’s a pretty sharp price, assuming it’s a quality build and the espresso tastes the way you want from a big burr flat. By way of comparison, the EG-1 with 80mm flats will set you back more than 4x that.
Sold out pretty much immediately at Alternative Brewing here is Australia.
The Coffee Chronicler gave it a good review (although he didn’t pay for it).
Main criticism was it may not be worth the upgrade from the DF64 considering the lack of burrs available.
I am probably late to the table as usual with this but which 83mm burr set are they using? Is it an in house one?
dfk41 I’m sure it comes with Italmill burrs hence wondering if I should swap for mazzer set to really find out what’s worth

Mazzer make good burrs.

I swapped out the Italmill burrs for Mazzers on the DF64 and it has been a huge improvement
I changed the burrs in my major to SSP. .
Would I do it on a grinder like this prob not as it would make it over a grand.
I hate bellow, that’s why I got rid of my wong doserless kit.
I now use a brush, so I grind, brush purge. It’s a bit of a faff. Esp when it’s next to my niche which is a case of grind and you’re done. 🤷
