Well I just confess I took a plunge when noticed it last night …

I had the df64 against the niche and decided to keep the niche as the looks, workflow and lack of bellows was a clear win for me.

Tried a major a while ago and really enjoyed it but it was too large for my designated area therefore decided to give this a go! Considering getting mazzer burrs to replace straight away .

    prezes - ok. A few questions… 😉

The df83 has bellows too…. Won’t that annoy you, given the workflows between the 83 and 64 are essentially the same?

How was the taste in the cup between the df64 and the niche? I take you also preferred the Niche?

MediumRoastSteam yes it does have the bellows and it might get on my nerves. I remember having to blow and blow the df64 to get grounds out.

To be fair I am just curious and fancy trying it out. If I won’t like will have to sell it.

My taste buds are not refined enough to pick up all the minor differences but tried quite a few cups with both grinders and both my partner and I agreed Niche were more to our liking.

Will most likely still be the case this time so will appreciate the Niche even more

For an 83mm flat single doser, it’s a pretty sharp price, assuming it’s a quality build and the espresso tastes the way you want from a big burr flat. By way of comparison, the EG-1 with 80mm flats will set you back more than 4x that.

Sold out pretty much immediately at Alternative Brewing here is Australia.

A kindred spirit. Nice to know I’m not the only crazy one.

(Or maybe we are the only sane ones? ☺️)

The Coffee Chronicler gave it a good review (although he didn’t pay for it).

Main criticism was it may not be worth the upgrade from the DF64 considering the lack of burrs available.

        Mazzer make good burrs.

Decent De1pro v1.45 - Niche Duo - Niche Zero - Decent is the best machine ever made -

I changed the burrs in my major to SSP. .

Would I do it on a grinder like this prob not as it would make it over a grand.

I hate bellow, that’s why I got rid of my wong doserless kit.

I now use a brush, so I grind, brush purge. It’s a bit of a faff. Esp when it’s next to my niche which is a case of grind and you’re done. 🤷

          Cuprajake It’s a bit of a faff.

It’s a small price to pay - major and SSP HU 83 mm flat - for £550+.

We are looking at adding about £400 for the SSP 83 mm including an assumed postage of $50, 1.18 currency rate and 25% VAT and tax on top of the base price!

LMSC 25% VAT and tax on top

In terms of import taxes, given the burrs are made in the EU, should they charge any other import duties other than VAT at 20% for the UK?

I haven’t checked or imported anything from the EU since he UK left the single market, so I’m curious to know how rules are being applied.

              Very messy area!

              1. If the seller is VAT registered, he/she must remove the VAT and declare that on the invoice. The VAT is then chargeable at our port of entry.
              2. If not VAT registered, the VAT is / may be applicable at our customs beyond a limit.
              3. If the seller doesn’t remove the VAT, we shouldn’t be paying the VAT. But, there may have been instances of the VAT notice. Jake did get a VAT notice. I don’t know if he also paid the same at the origin of supply

There is also a complex rules of origin complicating the matter.

The import duty isn’t a lot. I think it will be about 3% - 5%

LMSC - thanks. But my point was whether there should be any import duty for something which is manufactured in the EU, I.e.: SSP burrs. I understand VAT is chargeable.

Edit: thanks for the link to thread. So no import duty, only VAT plus some shipment flat fee.
