Morning I opened a bag of Ethiopian Guji Grade 1 from Coffeelink this morning and the beans look like I’ve never seen before. The best I can describe it is like they’ve been cocoa dusted ! Can anyone advise if this is normal for this kind of bean or is it a faulty Batch from the roaster? It been funny or anything but… what does the dust taste of? I’m wondering with something went a little off with the packaging and chaff dust got into your bag. Or is it ground coffee? I personally never seen anything like it.

@"MediumRoastSteam"#p28448 I tasted it and can’t say! Maybe they’ve been doing a ground coffee order for someone and had a bit of accident ? I actually made a drink with it now, it grinds fine and tasted ok as well. All the years and not seen something like this !

@"prezes"#p28449 - put the coffee into a pasta colander or equivalent, place a hoover next to it and stir the beans with a wooden spoon in order to remove the dust, if you so wish. 👍😊

Never seen anything like it. Well I have, if I was asked, the dust looks similar to what you can get on green coffee containers? Although that dust is light beech in colour. I don't see how it could get on roasted coffee though? Plus any "dust" would be removed by the airflow through the roaster and also by the cooling tray?

I'd be curious to know what it was as well and whether it's on all the beans from that sack of coffee?

Similar to what Dave says, looks like the skins you get on sacks of green coffee and there's more with naturals, which the guji probably is. My guess is the roaster had the greens in a container, roasted the batch and then put the roasted beans in the same (now empty) container…..though to get that much on them maybe they bagged up the green in the retail packing if they're roasting small batches to order. Either way, if I'm right, that's a bad practice and not good food hygiene.

MediumRoastSteam CoyoteOldMan Jeez! Nothing to do with the origin of coffee. It’s a simple response jovial response re-not picking up the cinnamon dust flavour : unless it’s very lightly dusted or have Covid. 😳🤣

Btw, you can teach me when we get a chance to meet for a cup of coffee at my place! 😊
