and with regards to the name of the machine, straight from Paolo and Antonio, at 5:56.

Amberale The handles come 3 ways (wood is extra) at the moment, black, Olive Wood, and metal tipped wood. I like black machines as well.
DavecUK Otherwise we would still be moaning about the Romans, and “what did they ever do for us”
Well, Romans are history (we always touch Londinium when we talk about levers, don’t we) ;) . Survivors of CCCP regime are still with us. Millions of Ukrainians are now suffering because the Soviet imperialism is still a dream of most of the Russians.
The more far away people are from the border (Italy, UK) the less people understand, care and show empathy to their neighbors. And I can understand this. But still you won’t convince me that soviet spacecraft is the proper name for espresso machine in November 2022.
And sorry for the off topic. Just do not offer this beautiful machine in soviet red finish ;)

I am afraid we are getting into emotional and traumatic minefields. Some strong statements here. I wish you have avoided making them. Before passions and emotions take the better of us, let’s draw a line.
pjw Londinium when we talk about levers, don’t we
The L is an inevitable part of the lever story. We can’t avoid, while at the same time people have strong personal views based on their own personal experiences - good or bad. Healthy discussions and challenging the merits and demerits are good, provided we respect the person as an individual.

I can understand if folks have strong reservations! I am not too fuzzed about the name. As a sales director, I may have a different take.
If some body doesn’t like the name, they may request Paolo to remove the label. If that’s not possible, oh well, the prospect may have a difficult choice to make! :-)
Bottom line - it is a beautiful machine! 👏
It was named 6 years ago. I think if people feel strongly enough about a machines name, they can silently choose not to buy it.
what are your feelings on the Porsche macaan ?
joking aside
i dont think we need to get into that stuff here, we cant go getting upset over stuff like this
Decent De1pro v1.45 - Niche Duo - Niche Zero - Decent is the best machine ever made -
Cuprajake i dont think we need to get into that stuff here, we cant go getting upset over stuff like this
I completely agree, hence why people can “silently” choose what they do and don’t want to buy if it’s simply based on a name, rather than functions, performance, specification or looks..
I seem to recall a bunch of Brits on another platform ridiculing a Greek Mythological name for a prototype on the basis that is was used in the UK for a bargain chain.
When folks are thinking of names for their products they can’t always consider every niche concern.
Amberale - Exactly.
Specially when unfortunate things happen many years after naming it.
Example… The name of the River Thames as it flows through Oxford…. It became a bit “controversial” a few years ago.
Amberale I just had a Eureka moment and realised you were talking about the Argos lever. I could imagine reading your post on a Vectis transport bus in the Isle of white. Or a female commercial pilot called Elizabeth, considering airport minima before taking off for Elysium via Vesuvius. Perhaps even a Spaniard in Ukraine contemplating a rocket, before going back to his appartemento.
Some very sensitive souls around.
Over here in Oz we are having a lot of name changes for parks/roads/suburbs etc as the truth of our colonial forebears is exposed. (slavers, massacres etc) and plain racist terminology in some cases.
My personal take is if a name offends a group of people then change it.
It is not a big enough issue to get worked up about.
tompoland I think the Mitsubishi Pajero had a few difficulties as well (it means ‘w a n k e r’)
CoyoteOldMan - in Spanish speaking Latin America (e.g.: excluding Brazil) the aforementioned vehicle was renamed to Montero. I’m surprised marketing departments don’t think of the basics sometimes!
MediumRoastSteam I think they did that in Spain too…
DavecUK Somehow, it doesn’t sound quite as nice. Though I can assure you that caffé Segafredo got its fair amount of sniggers from us kids.
