Decent De1pro v1.45 - Niche Duo - Niche Zero - Decent is the best machine ever made -

MattH Oh dear…. I may have to consider my options..

Might be a blessing in disguise…you can revisit your decision….😁

DavecUK I was happy to take a punt as its relative cheap - a bit different to the 2 conical hand grinders, pretty small in size etc. I guess all I really need is something for when I am making drinks back to back and so a hand grinder would be less than ideal.

Not sure though that I need to consider spending oodles of cash on a grinder - I doubt I would notice all the “differences” in my milk drinks. Maybe a used niche zero is a way to go… not sure I can think of much else in the single dosing market.

LMSC Did he make a decision in the end 😂 - I watched/skimmed the other video

Which seemed more like a promotion to remind you the kickstarter price is going up again…..

MattH make a decision in the end

      I watched skipping clips.😀

He liked the MP burrs on DF64 for turbo shots (for < medium roast). He also said the stock burrs of both DF64v (diamond cut) and 64s made sweet and nice coffee. He initially said he liked shot from the 064s better than Df64. But, later observed comparison is a difficult call as there are many moving parameters like roast type, process (natural, washed, anaerobic), etc.

Nothing like being vague so as not to upset anyone.. - I am still undecided as to whether to drop it and look elsewhere

MattH ah you were going for the 068, I forgot. Well I suppose it’s more expensive even than the 078 as well

I wonder what the point is at which you start to diminishing returns. I think Lance Hedrick touched on this in one of his videos but I can’t remember what grinder he was referring to :)

Because it makes me think, I seem to remember the role of thumb was to spend a certain % on your grinder, I seem to recall the advise was more on the grinder even, but my memory is awful!

I imagine that’s not a good rule anymore, you can buy machines that are easily 1-2k and then some, and it seems £700 on a grinder gets you something perfectly fine.

Yeh I saw this, I need to re-watch it. He didn’t seem to focus much on espresso or the 078s, and I’m sure he said the 078s realises the full potential of the coffee but then at the end seemed to say it was ok, I was watching whilst distracted though..

Inspector I was hoping it would be more of a glowing recommendation than it was :) I’ve backed the 078s, not really sure what to go for - other options are more expensive (DF83 maybe? Niche Zero?) but I’d rather buy one to last for a while, would rather not sell in a couple of months

caffeinated-carp in the same boat. I think after watching the review it is a good option for the price. He was just very focussed on filter over espresso.

I too would rather spend a little more on something I’ll keep. I’m also pretty sure the Niche after the possible VAT on the Timemore isn’t much more (if at all) in the UK.

I might just bin my 064s pledge and just pickup the solo compact bella are selling for 199

Niche zero was rated as 60% and the 078S was able to exploit the full potential of the coffee. I’m more interested in how the 078S compares to the Niche Duo. I think he said he prefers flat burrs which could explain why he didn’t prefer Niche zero.
