For all of you that have static issues with your grinders (as do I with my Femobook), go order the Acaia Ion Beam. This thing completely solves static issues. No more spritzing of water, etc. Pretty amazing to watch the difference. I saw the change immediately when I used it.

For filter, at least, I am still undecided as to whether eliminating static is a good thing. I see the importance of good dose consistency & low retention, but not sure I want all that chaff & particularly tiny fines in my dose.

It might be an interesting idea but at $150 (plus shipping and tax) I think I will try James Hoffman's technique of a small fine spray on the beans before I add them to the hopper. It worked very well for me in the past. I will report back on the results.

That said the built in anti-static on the Fellow Ode gen 2 is fantastic, makes a massive difference and has the bonus of taking up no more space.

I didn’t have that problem with the original Mignon set up but with the single dose hopper and bellows I am sure I can puff out any build up. You only need a very slight fine spray on the beans and then a good stir before they go into the hopper.

MBdoc Not my experience with the Femobook. The light spritz of water helped, but not to the degree that you’d desire and end-state. I’m also not convinced the water mixing the the oils helps with the cleanliness of a grinder, which has been noted elsewhere. Anyway, I was so dang impressed with the Ion Beam, that I had to share with anyone else in a similar situation.

I was going to try and buy one of those a while ago, but I am too frugal…. Now I have seen it work, then I might stump up the readies and get one…although I don’t really have problems with static…although there is always a little.

So far the spray has reduced the static quite a bit. Ioniser might be more faff to use than this so I will stick with spray for a while longer.

MBdoc - it’s well documented that RDT - Ross droplet technique - essentially moistening the beans prior to grinding can and most likely will corrode the burrs on the long run. Just keep an eye on them for rust spots.

DavecUK How have you got on with the little static buster?
Mine finally arrived yesterday and I tried it today. I ‘squirted ’ a bit into the hopper before grinding and held it beside the outlet spout while grinding and there were no grounds sticking to the sides of the cup after the grind. I wil see how it affects build up in the spout after a few more grinds. So far looks promising.

I don’t seem to have any static problem with my new Mignon Single does grinder in UK but I might look at Amazon when we get back if it develops. Can’t break any bones for a fiver!
