Everybody smoked back then. I was brought up in a smoking household my mum and four brothers and sister all smoked but I never did… except once, when at the age of about nine in the house on my own and I found an old pipe. Of course, I needed to find some baccy for it and went out in the street, where the gutter was full of old filterless tab ends. Got a handfull, broke em open and stuffed the stale and I am sure mouldy tobbacco in the bowl and lit her up. After a couple of minutes sucking on it and creating a smog like a Puffing Billy steam train, hacking coughs ensued and I had to run upstairs quick to the loo and was as sick as a dog….Do you think that could be why I never smoked?😆
