I ended up not even opening the box for the AtHome frying pan. There was a lot of YT backlash which I ignore, but quite a few vlogs did re reviews at 6 to 12 months and that is what put me off. I have looked ay dozens of others since and for the mo, am going to keep my Lakeland pan till it is no longer serviceable, then worry about it!
Many thanks to everyone who contributed

I’ve been looking for one of those oven to table saute pans or shallow casserole dishes at a reasonably affordable price. I couldn’t believe just how many there are but virtually all made in China. Even Tefal that is a French company have them made in China.

When I looked for a British made pan there was only one that really stood out, Samual Groves a Birmingham company that have been making cookware since 1800 and frozen to death but they want about £160!

Same as when I went into B&Q looking at the tools. Even though they were giving different brand names that if you didn’t know better - or looked closer - would have you believe they were coming from somewhere like Sweden or Germany, every single one of them were actually made in China. In fact there was not a single item I could find that was not made in China.

Even Le Crueset whilst the cast iron pans are made in northern France all their accessories yes including porcelain and ceramics are…yes you’ve guessed it, made in China.

Nothing against the Chinese, in fact they have been very clever in what they have done and I have had to resort to buying Chinese manufactured stuff like the Ingenio Pans from Tefal recently. But what a shame we have relinquished most of our manufacturing like this.

It is sad when only a few of us can actually afford to buy British.

We bought Samual groves non stick frying pan last year and just recently bought a smaller one. We also have their pans which are really solid well built with some weight in them. Really pleased so far with Samual grove stuff. Just bought a ninja non stick frying pan which can go in the oven up to 260c, half price in J.L so if it gets ruined it has not cost us a fortune. We had le crueset non stick and they did not last as well as we expected, so we looked for something made in the uk. That’s when we found Samual groves. We do try to buy British but it can cost you.

I’ve given up on Tefal and t other coatings that degrade and cause the pan to be thrown away. I’ve got cast iron skillets that will outlast me and my children and also now carbon steel frying pans. You can get them preseasoned but the more you use them the more non stick they get.
As for cleaning, anything that does stick, a bit of water in the hot pan on the hob to deglaze and it comes off. Either with food still in for a sauce or just to clean.
De Buyer are not expensive for a lifetime pan. £62 for 28cm.
And made in France.

I bought the stainless steel Ingenio triple pot set rather than the ones with non-stick. I like the fact I can remove the handle and they will fit in both my gas and Panasonic combi ovens. The last non-stick deep sided frying pan I bought was from a company called Haufson and it cost me £65.99. To be fair it is my go-to pan but again I want one I can fit in the oven.

The stainless steel ones are easy to clean and there are plenty of tips on YouTube showing how you can actually cook with stainless steel pans without any sticking or at least very little. Non-stick quick wipe clean is great but like many I have found it just doesn’t last.

I stayed out of this because I am a frying pan nut.
My favourite pan is a 50 year old cast iron 10″ jobbie that I bought at a disposals store in my youth.
My daily go to pans are 6″ carbon steel french chefs pans.
For big jobs I use a 15″ SS flat bottomed wok which doubles as a deep fryer.
I have a smaller 10″ carbon steel wok for two person stir fries.
I have a set of Solidtechnics iron pans that are ok but not as good as my others.
I would like to try their SS units but, even for me they are bloody expensive and I don’t have kids to pass them down to.

I have a couple of Teflon pans for the Studmistress.
She prefers them and the durries will kill her before the PFAS.

Funny enough I am in the hunt for some new pans…

Lots of choice still deciding between carbon or a non stick of some sort.

I have a le cresuet skillet which I think is a coated cast iron of some sort - never really worked that well I found and is very heavy.

Just waiting to see if there are any black friday deals at Samuel Groves.. Also could do with a good sized tray for the christmas dinner this year !

    Cheers

    Matt

I went all stainless steel a while back, with one Tefal pan that I use for things like eggs. This one is always hand washed so it hopefully lasts a while.

The stainless steel pans should last forever and clean up really easy. My fav is the De Buyer frying pan, a joy to cook with and after years of use still looks brand new. There’s nothing you can’t throw at them 👌🏻

We have a McArthurGlen outlet up here near York and there is a Tefal shop there which is where I bought ours (reduced massivley in the Black Friday deals)…

Looking on the Tefal website they don’t seem to show that particular set any longer available. Argos do sell it but at £100. You will notice they do not come with lids but again Tefal being the crafty money grabbing b******s they are, sell them seperately. We bought both the cooking lids (£48 down to £33.50) and the storage lids (£11) and so all in, came to less (£79.50) than what the 3 pots and removeable handle came to alone.

BrewLiam ah yes - i was looking at debuyer yesterday as well - which do you have ?

While not non-stick when new (some seasoning is required), I can vouch for the De Buyer ‘Mineral b’ products which are made in France to high standards.

The best series from them is the “Mineral b pro” with a stainless-steel handle (the regular ‘Mineral b element’ pans are good, but the handles are not as nice/comfortable).

They also make a similar looking stainless-steel pan dubbed ‘affinity’, which is also very nice and better suited for acidic food (tomato sauce, etc.) which damage ‘non stick’ seasoning of carbon steel pans.

Black Friday bargain if anyone is looking.

          a month later

I’ve been using ‘All-Clad,’ a reputable brand known for quality cookware, and their hard-anodized nonstick fry pan is a kitchen essential. Renowned for its durability and even heat distribution, this pan is available in various sizes, including 12 inches. Whether you’re searing a London broil crock pot, the All-Clad fry pan is a versatile companion for all your culinary adventures.

IKEA SS pan now on offer at £35vwas £50 that’s definitely my next frying pan

Eiffel I didn’t realise there was a pro range… one to look for my next smaller pan. Love my mineral b 28cm pan.

          6 days later

I picked up a ninja zerostick frying pan just after the black friday sales for about 20 quid. this thing is great, nothing sticks to it, it’s oven safe to 260 C and they offer a 10 year guarantee on the coating. they also claim you can use metal utensils without damaging it. only had it a short while so can’t comment on longevity but it seems solid and is nice to use, in terms of weight and balance.

Well bought from IKEA I sale at £35

Good buy. You won’t go wrong with that. Beautifully made with several layers of construction and very heavy duty, retaining an even heat across the whole surface. Tall sides keep spatters of fat in the pan well too. Takes a while to heat up, but when it is, you can lower the heat right down and it keeps a good heat without burning.
For cleaning, even the most caked on meat for instance, or egg, soak the pan with hot soapy water and leave for a while and all the food just brushes off under the tap.
