I bought my first proper machine and grinder last year. A Rancilio Silvia and Rocky grinder. As it is so new I’m reluctant to start making any major modifications. I have however recently acquired a Rancilio Lucy of indeterminate vintage. It all works well and seems in reasonable condition. I have tried various places to get it serviced but encountered complete apathy. Even well regarded firms have suggested I scrap it and buy a new machine (without seeing it). I would like to get it checked over and upgraded where necessary but would also like to perform some simple upgrades. A silvia wand is first on list but are there any other third party components i should be looking at installing?
Rancilio Lucy
Welcome to the forum…I am not familiar with the machine and it’s components, and I suspect many members may not be either. However, take the case off and post some internal shots on here, then we can see what components are being used and suggest which specific components should be upgraded, serviced etc.. and any possible machine upgrades you might try.
Sorry for assuming knowledge of this unit when it is quite rare. From research it is simply an early version of the Silvia combined with a similar vintage Rocky grinder housed in a single enclosure. Apparently it is 99% identical in spec to these units. If I can’t find anyone to give it a check up I will have to tackle it myself. This will only be a renewal of seals and gaskets and a descale but I guess my question was aimed at Rancilio gurus about what they might recommend relating to using third party shower screens, seals, portafilters etc. Thanks in advance.
I have done two restoration threads on Silvias on this forum, they shouldn’t be too hard to find. In them, I have tried to incorporate most of the generally recommended improvements.
