Excitement builds!! Looking at the architecture it looks like someone in the UK too! I have absolutely zero interest in what the influencers think of this one, it’s a day one purchase for me.

I have not ordered the gbw allground - kinda waiting to see what the philos is like.. tbh nothing wrong with my current allground….. Still cannot see a price officially on the mazzer site - nor of they will have a reseller in the UK rather than a import from Venice.

I might’ve imagined this but I think @"DavecUK"#1 suggested Mazzer will retail this themselves and aim for a sub £1k price point (possibly for early adopters, with a later price rise). I’ve been waiting years for a single-dose, multi-method grinder from a heritage manufacturer that I like the design of. The latter two usually being the reason for me not buying anything yet. Tbh, even if it’s not perfect it’ll be an upgrade on my current setup and like the LM, just nice to own and use.

Looks great. I think I’ve read somewhere it’s between 900-100 euros.

Rumours on HB, so take this with a pinch of salt, are that the Philos has been delayed. Wouldn’t surprise me given the impact global conflicts on supply chains.

Yeah I saw that. Though made me laugh that places took deposits and then refunded especially as I thought that mazzer were selling them direct to start with… but theres no info in the mazzer site either. Just waiting to see the review tbh - anyhow my blind shaker is about to arrive - so something else to play with 😂

Yeah the retailers I've spoken to in the UK said they had no plans to stock it. Looks like it will indeed be Mazzer direct. I can see the reviews being disappointing. There's no shortage of low priced 64mm flats and people who don't care about build quality, place of build and manufacturer heritage are going to say it's overpriced and find plenty of flaws I'm sure. It's an interesting price point because you can get capable single dosers for half the price or less, and it's obviously not going to compete with the top-end grinders like Kafateks etc. I think the only way this will sell well in the current market is if influencers really get behind it. Then again, I don't think Mazzer necessarily need it to sell massively well as the home market still isn't their bread and butter. I'm excited for it and have said before, will be buying it regardless but I don't expect it to be a flawless grinder.

depends really, the build should be better than that of the df and time mores, you would think, but its a saturated market there has been a zerno fs and a kafatec and weber eg1 all around £1500 on the old forum

Teaboy have you thought about getting some 50ml centrifuge tubes to predose your beans into? They are the ideal size for an 18g dose as you can see in the photo below.

That transparent Decent looks great!

For dosing I use these as they fit 32g which is useful for the 2 cup v60 in the morning. Also available in colours if you wanted to use one colour for espresso beans and one for filter.

Your bean storage looks really cool. I would like to get some amber glass storage to reduce UV. The only benefit of the tubes aside from the relatively small amount of headspace is they are pretty cheap! I think 25 ended up costing less than £10, which is handy.

The other nice thing about them is its easy to put a small button magnet in the inside of the lid so they can do this:

Obviously the magnets have a huge impact on the taste of the espresso.

Sterifeed bottles are pretty good for bean storage as well. They’re transparent but they sit the correct way up and are food safe and air tight.

Oh yes these look perfect! I’d definitely get these over the centrifuge tubes if buying again purely so they can stand up. I’m aware of the collared centrifuge tubes available, but the ones I could find on line were much more expensive

I was going to say that I was lucky that I had loads of the Sterifeed bottles available but the reason I have them wasn’t ideal!

I think they take about 25 grams and happily go through the dishwasher.

Haven’t even tried a bounce test on the granite yet. Probably shouldn’t have said that!!

Thinking about the Philos again, I’ve been really impressed with the lack of retention. With the knocker I get out exactly what I put in. I appreciate my scales only resolve to one decimal place, but it’s good enough for me.

Now it’s had a bit more coffee through it (I’d estimate around 2kg), it seems to have got a little more forgiving when dialling in, and small changes to the grind size now make small changes to the flow rate/shot duration. Previously each click on the grind setting make quite large (4 or so second) differences to the shot time. Now I’d say it’s down to 1-2 seconds per click, which is a nice range.

Its all sounding good. I usually have to be looking at 10 seconds the wrong way to think it is off. But im on milk drinks.

From the videos ive seen the build quality is next level for the price point .

Mine is waiting for a plane in italy at the moment. Cant wait!!

Yeah very much the same experiences here with retention and dialling in.

I’m still very impressed with the quality of the filter coffee from these burrs (I200). I sort of thought good espresso from a Mazzer burr was a given but I’d go as far as saying the filter is on a par with the Ode 2 which is somewhat unexpected from a multipurpose burr.

Any thoughts on how the Philos would compare to a single dose Mazzer Major with standard burrs other than easier workflow? I’m trying to convince myself that the 83mm burrs of the Major has the advantage but on the other hand the Philos is better engineered for single dosing. I’m left wondering if grind quality & results of the Philos would be better overall despite the smaller burrs.

If you’re able to I’d try 64mm and 83mm next to each other. Some people (myself included) prefer ~64 to 83. I say around 64 because I like the E65 burr a lot too.

With the exception of EK43 burrs for V60 on some complex coffees, I prefer 64mm for every drink. I find the balance of clarity and body more pleasing than 83mm.

However many people prefer the opposite so it’s very much personal preference.
