Yeah I tried it out of curiosity and it does appear to be better with the included cup.
I’ve read that the plate the cup sits on is classed removable/replaceable so when it inevitably gets covered in scratches, it can be replaced easily at a low cost. I don’t know that’s as effective as an ion generator but my experiences with those aren’t great really.
I guess due to the sheer number of 64mm flats that get churned out these days they’re all met with a level of cynicism but I do think Mazzer have thought this grinder through pretty well and the more you use it the more you realise it’s touches like the above that go some ways towards the enjoyment of use and ownership.
I’ve seen a few mentions of the zero point being off too and I think Mazzer could do with including a card in the box saying it’s deliberately 5-10 clicks above chirp. A lot of people getting their grinder and saying ’mine wasn’t set up right out of the box because chirp wasn’t zero’ but Mazzer have confirmed that’s intentional.
Of course if it’s not grinding fine enough at zero fair enough, but I haven’t gone below 20 yet on light roasts and my zero isn’t chirping.
