Excitement builds!! Looking at the architecture it looks like someone in the UK too! I have absolutely zero interest in what the influencers think of this one, it’s a day one purchase for me.

I have not ordered the gbw allground - kinda waiting to see what the philos is like.. tbh nothing wrong with my current allground….. Still cannot see a price officially on the mazzer site - nor of they will have a reseller in the UK rather than a import from Venice.

I might’ve imagined this but I think @"DavecUK"#1 suggested Mazzer will retail this themselves and aim for a sub £1k price point (possibly for early adopters, with a later price rise). I’ve been waiting years for a single-dose, multi-method grinder from a heritage manufacturer that I like the design of. The latter two usually being the reason for me not buying anything yet. Tbh, even if it’s not perfect it’ll be an upgrade on my current setup and like the LM, just nice to own and use.

Looks great. I think I’ve read somewhere it’s between 900-100 euros.

Rumours on HB, so take this with a pinch of salt, are that the Philos has been delayed. Wouldn’t surprise me given the impact global conflicts on supply chains.

Yeah I saw that. Though made me laugh that places took deposits and then refunded especially as I thought that mazzer were selling them direct to start with… but theres no info in the mazzer site either. Just waiting to see the review tbh - anyhow my blind shaker is about to arrive - so something else to play with 😂

Yeah the retailers I've spoken to in the UK said they had no plans to stock it. Looks like it will indeed be Mazzer direct. I can see the reviews being disappointing. There's no shortage of low priced 64mm flats and people who don't care about build quality, place of build and manufacturer heritage are going to say it's overpriced and find plenty of flaws I'm sure. It's an interesting price point because you can get capable single dosers for half the price or less, and it's obviously not going to compete with the top-end grinders like Kafateks etc. I think the only way this will sell well in the current market is if influencers really get behind it. Then again, I don't think Mazzer necessarily need it to sell massively well as the home market still isn't their bread and butter. I'm excited for it and have said before, will be buying it regardless but I don't expect it to be a flawless grinder.

depends really, the build should be better than that of the df and time mores, you would think, but its a saturated market there has been a zerno fs and a kafatec and weber eg1 all around £1500 on the old forum

That was me. I was grinding 18g rather than 21.5 and presumably at a coarser setting.

If this static theory is true then it’s nothing to do with the magnet, it’s the process of grounding the metal cup to the earth which can still occur through some insulation. So try with a non-conductive material like a plastic cup to remove any doubt.

It could be any number and combination of factors though!

Used the dose finisher tool last night after few weeks out of curiosity and got 2.6g out. Seems to be worthwhile occasionally.

I’m a big fan of the Ode, especially the Gen 2 burrs but I was so impressed with the Philos for pourover the Ode was sold a couple of weeks ago.

InfamousTuba to add to @HarveyMushman ’s question - appreciate you may not want to take it apart immediately but if at some point you decided to try to new Mazzer burrs in the Ode and report back that would be much appreciated.

The review on HB suggested the Mazzer auger would make a big difference to taste and I highly doubt that, but would be interested to hear your take first hand rather than someone theorising about it and not actually doing it!

HarveyMushman I have the Fellow Ode with Gorilla burrs and a Mazzer Super Jolly, at some point I’ll buy separately the I200 Mazzer burrs to try them in the Mazzer and I’ll compare them with the Gorilla .

I’m not home right now so can’t make a video but the auger definitely does something.

Whether it’s beneficial to end result is beyond my knowledge of how coffee is ground but I can say this for sure, if you open the gate while beans are in the feed, they’re absolutely smashed to bits by the auger before being fed into the burrs. It’s chaos in there.

I don’t know if this is different to other vertically oriented grinders as I’ve not had a clear enough view of the grind path to see.

I don’t believe it is, unless the auger is a softer material like spring.

no issue as such with stepless, except, the slightest creep in setting. were talking half a unit after maybe 6 or so x 21.5g grinds.

Nothing to complain about, just to keep an eye on…..

certainly you cant see it move (I think it knows when you are looking!)

In that respect, nothing new as its an interview on the mazzer stand with Luigi Mazzer, at MICE 2024 Melbourne.

Still, i found it interesting!! Not a review in any way…..

Having said that, watching youtube for the last 3 weeks as i have even JH is somewhat interesting, and ive tried some beatboxing without success!!!

It doubt it, in my experience the SSP MPs (which these share a similar, aggressive geometry with) are faster than the traditional mazzer espresso burrs.

The auger could even slow down the feed rate, so it might taste different with or without one. Either way I’d be very surprised if it took ages to grind without one.
