Tal but how do you find the Philips compared to the Duo? Considering taste, workflow, static, noise etc?
I also had a Duo, although only for a few days.
Purely in the cup, for espresso, I think theyāre close to equal, possibly the Duo edges it on clarity but I didnāt do a side-by-side.
Workflow wise the Philos wins by a margin for me. I wasnāt able to successfully switch between filter/espresso on the Duo without the subsequent espresso shot gushing. I also didnāt really enjoy the filter from the espresso burr (unsurprisingly⦠itās not supposed to be a filter burr).
You can easily switch burrs on the Duo obviously, but then you donāt need to on the Philos. The 200D multipurpose burr is awesome, will capably do espresso and filter without issue and tasty results.
Static doesnāt appear to be an issue on either of them for me.
Construction of them also isnāt really close. Not to say the Duo isnāt well put together because it is, but it feels like a home appliance, whereas the Philos feels more substantial if that makes sense. Like a Kitchenaid stand mixer next to a Kenwood one or something.
Grind adjustment is also unbelievably smooth on the Philos. It struck me how little effort is required to turn the dial compared to literally every other grinder Iāve had (including other Mazzers which arenāt exactly known for their smooth adjustment).
If youāre only drinking espresso and like 83mm burrs the Duo would probably clinch it in the cup. Otherwise Iād say the Philos on every other front.
