Excitement builds!! Looking at the architecture it looks like someone in the UK too! I have absolutely zero interest in what the influencers think of this one, it’s a day one purchase for me.

I have not ordered the gbw allground - kinda waiting to see what the philos is like.. tbh nothing wrong with my current allground….. Still cannot see a price officially on the mazzer site - nor of they will have a reseller in the UK rather than a import from Venice.

I might’ve imagined this but I think @"DavecUK"#1 suggested Mazzer will retail this themselves and aim for a sub £1k price point (possibly for early adopters, with a later price rise). I’ve been waiting years for a single-dose, multi-method grinder from a heritage manufacturer that I like the design of. The latter two usually being the reason for me not buying anything yet. Tbh, even if it’s not perfect it’ll be an upgrade on my current setup and like the LM, just nice to own and use.

Looks great. I think I’ve read somewhere it’s between 900-100 euros.

Rumours on HB, so take this with a pinch of salt, are that the Philos has been delayed. Wouldn’t surprise me given the impact global conflicts on supply chains.

Yeah I saw that. Though made me laugh that places took deposits and then refunded especially as I thought that mazzer were selling them direct to start with… but theres no info in the mazzer site either. Just waiting to see the review tbh - anyhow my blind shaker is about to arrive - so something else to play with 😂

Yeah the retailers I've spoken to in the UK said they had no plans to stock it. Looks like it will indeed be Mazzer direct. I can see the reviews being disappointing. There's no shortage of low priced 64mm flats and people who don't care about build quality, place of build and manufacturer heritage are going to say it's overpriced and find plenty of flaws I'm sure. It's an interesting price point because you can get capable single dosers for half the price or less, and it's obviously not going to compete with the top-end grinders like Kafateks etc. I think the only way this will sell well in the current market is if influencers really get behind it. Then again, I don't think Mazzer necessarily need it to sell massively well as the home market still isn't their bread and butter. I'm excited for it and have said before, will be buying it regardless but I don't expect it to be a flawless grinder.

depends really, the build should be better than that of the df and time mores, you would think, but its a saturated market there has been a zerno fs and a kafatec and weber eg1 all around £1500 on the old forum

Adrianmsmith I forget now Adrian, but did you ever have a Solo T64? Having one, the one with the Redspeed SSP I am really struggling to imagine the Philos burrs actually being an improvement since they are both 64mm. I also cannot understand the Philos being better than the 83mm Duo burrs, coming from the same stable, but since I do not have a Philos then I am going to have to remain in the dark

Having had a Duo also, I wouldn’t say the Philos burrs are better. They’re different. Slightly less clarity than the Duo and slightly more body, to my taste at least. I suppose somewhat expected from a 64mm vs 83mm.

The 200 burr will obviously also do filter very well as it’s a multipurpose.

Hi David, yes i had a T64. In the cup theres not a big difference to it, philos or Duo.

If id seen the Philos first id probably never gone for the T64.

That doesn’t make the T64 bad in any way .

I just like the style of the Philos more and possibly the vertical design.

Had the philos not been there to bug me id be happy im sure with the t64. Similar i guess to the situation that the v2 evo put me in when there was nothing wrong with the v1!!

Ive still not had time to compare the philos to the Duo but for now they’re both staying. Its too easy to have the duo dialled in for my wife’s Decaf. I dont have to think about grind setting.

Theres a bigger difference to dialling in the decaf then the 4 current beans im currently using and far too easy to forget to adjust for the decaf.

Adrianmsmith In all of this, the thing I do not understand, is since Mazzer are well respected in the burr world, why do they bother entering an already crowded 63/64/65 mm marketplace? I personally, and this is meant as no attack on the Philos, think it is quite expensive for what it actually is……a 64mm burr grinder.

Note. For me the grind needs to be plus 6 compared to rhe i200 burrs.

Is the VDE screwdriver because you’re changing the burrs with the grinder plugged in and turned on at the socket?! Even so would be very worried if the burr carrier was energised…

top set looks a multipurpose cut, the second set more of a traditional cut, id expect the second set to need a much corse grind vs the originals,

Looks very very similar to the original Super Jolly / Mini burr, so similar in fact I’m wondering if it’s the same.

I must have had thousands of coffees from the SJ burr and it’s ideal for darker roasts. I’d expect a more traditional profile and body than the 200 burrs.

My first impression was - slightly more mouth feel…. but in this case its going to e difficult to do a head to head!!

@HarveyMushman As below i believe same profile teeth as Mini as you said. I believe the philos has a very slightly different centre hole but only affects mounting…..
