There is a new grinder about to hit the market from Bella Barista the T64, **not to be confused** with the Profitec T64. It's a 64mm flat burr grinder, produced by a Chinese manufacturer, I had a prototype and already a few enhancements have been recommended by me to BB so they can fine tune their offering. **The grinder in the video doesn't have an extra movable zero collar, the revised grinder does,** and it means the zero point can be adjusted should you ever change/use different burrs. The BB grinders will have this as standard. These videos introduce the T64 grinder, it's a nice variable speed flat burr grinder that produces excellent in cup results. The video was front August 2023 and it's normally an easy fix for the manufacturer so I'm wondering if you noticed any drift in the unit you have?

I got my unit from BB in January and it was stepped…I (damaged the stepped pin to jam it in, as you can't pull it out), this made it stepless. I did this after realising going in between steps was imprecise, it would possibly "fall off" the steps and move…plus it wasn't mine and would be going back (It actually is being collected by Bella Barista next week). As stepless, it's never moved or drifted at all and the company have been asked to make the BB grinders stepless. Also to add a re-zero ring as they might be factory zeroed, but if people change burrs then the zero may be lost. Also the factories zero might not always bee 100% correct. There is one big difference you perhaps didn't spot…**it's not variable speed**, mine goes from 800-2000 rpm, which is how I can use it to clear grinds without using the bellows. But they look like they are from the same company and offer the same 3 burr options…obviously I suggested to BB to only use SSP burrs, because they are a known quantity and the quality of construction merits it. *P.S.The Evo portafilter funnel for LSM size portafilter from Norvin (thanks again Norvin), fits a groove in the grind cup perfectly as you saw on the video, making it super easy to use with my 53.5mm portafilters*

I actually have a DF64 and it in my option the T64 is a much better grinder. and more accurately made. Oh I forgot to mention once it's finished grinding, after 2 minutes it switches off, so they really have thought about the product and the grind cup etc.. I have no idea about availability and retailers world wide, if you are in Europe BB might well ship it?

MediumRoastSteam i think the main problem with df64 is quirks, not longevity. The main function is solid but what built around it are not very thoughtful. They quickly released v2 => v5 and then gen 2, each with some improvements. I suspect we will see a t64s v2 before the end of the year

Might just be me but I think there’s a risk of choice paralysis with this type of grinder. Doesn’t feel like long ago that your choice was either the Niche, a few staple on-demand grinders like Mazzer or Ceado, and then maybe two top-end grinders.

There must be hundreds of 64mm flat burr grinders from manufacturers that have only been around five minutes!

This one looks good, and has the backing of @DavecUK testing it but I can understand why people aren’t that excited.

I’m pretty sure the BB one is made by Ningbo Grind Electric Appliance, they seem to have about two dozen variations on this model, as well as other models, with no doubt more to follow. There is such a massive manufacturing base in China that the it’s relatively easy for manufacturers to get tooling and processes in place to quickly diversify into areas deemed likely to be profitable. Clearly one of these areas is coffee stuff it seems.

Gagaryn I’m shocked. Not quite, but still. I did think that BB retrofits SSP burr into their grinder but nope, apparently they just ordered the one with SSP installed. I’m sure they passed Dave’s suggested improvements to the manufacturer and they complied.

I knew, yet I’m still impressed by those Chinese manufacturer’s ability to copy, build and modify those products. Their manufacturing power is nothing to sneeze at

Looks like you are correct. Bella Barista actually does list the manufacturer. Not on the product detail page, not on their listing page, but in the “recently viewed” section. 🤷‍♂️

Incidentally, not he same manufacturer as the df64.

Of course individual buyers should always be cautious and why buying from retailers like BB is probably a smart choice - for a peace of mind

MediumRoastSteam that falls to BB’s responsibility. they are the one who advertises it’s SSP. They should be experienced enough to distinct the actual and fake burr.

As I said it’s one of the reasons to buy from a reputable retailer. You don’t, and should not have to, worry about authenticity of a product.

dutchy101 Whilst my DF64 Solo works very well and I’m very pleased with the grinder I like the thought of not using bellows and I’m very keen on seeing how the SSPs perform.

The SSP HUs often sell second hand around the £100-130, and are regularly put up for sale on eBay and CFUK. You’ll even get them pre-seasoned, and with that coating there’s a low likelihood they’ll get blunt with regular use.

Yes they have the logo etched on to the back of them, you’d need to unscrew them to see it though. Not seen any reports of fakes branded as SSPs, seems especially pointless when there’s so many cheaper generic burrs for sale with similar designs to these HUs.

My guess would be this is going to be extremely unlikely as the manufacturer would realise this is going to immediately kill any deal and ongoing business, Not just with Bella Barista, but their products world wide. What reputable business is going to want to deal with a company that did this….and word gets round surprisingly fast.
