Raja123 yeah i agree to an extent,
But what happens when we introduce paper or mesh filters on top of the puck
While the decent shower screen is £17 that’s worth a punt, cant imagine the cost if the sworks for the evo, but then the evo can have triple the flow so dunno now much difference that makes at those fill rates. , 2seconds and the puck is over 2bar.

His acs evo is also guite small for a domestic environment ,🤪🤭

Very true,
Just get to a stage where you are chasing your tail in my very humble opinion.

Yes. It usually comes down to that. Here, it seems to be centered around d convenience of removal for some, and a potential better distribution for wetting (not to be confused with rate of fill and soak time). Add the hobby and willingness to experiment on top, and Sheldon has enough to sustain a bespoke biz.
Theres more going on though that we cant see, when it’s all under pressure surely the fluid dynamics change, the pf decent made to catch water is a good idea, but again without coffee kn there was cant truly know whats happening.
Then i think to myself can one really taste a difference with that given there are so many variables
Ive not looked at the spec for the new rotary pump used in the evo 2 but i know the gear pump was very quick fill.
When we are trying to mimic the steam boiler infusion pressure of gone by levers.

Shower screens are generally more about what happens during fill rather than when under pressure. Pathways form where water first hits, and if, due to uneven distribution, there’s a disparity on the surface of the puck, it’s where most of the water will tend to go when pressure ramps. That’s the theory anyway (and what some people are willing to pay substantially to find out).
I will be the first to admit that after changing from gu10 clip to circlip and “curing the issue” of “water leaking from around the shower screen” there was no difference in to shot or cup!! I felt happier for a few minutes until i forgot!!
Yesterday after receiving the bravo tamper and therefore having to change from ACS to IMS competition basket due to the basket size, shot time went from 26s to 42. Had to grind coarser. Had expected the opposite. Im not suggesting that is anything to do with the tamper, just the basket.

Adrianmsmith yeah but you don’t count, cos you add milk! :D
Adrianmsmith bravo tamper
What’s your tamper size please? You may observe that shot time changes a bit between single and double tamp(s) using the Bravo tamper. Mine is 54.9 mm.
I am sure you would know that these tampers hides coffee powder, over time. I routinely clean out that daily. 😊
Raja123 hey, ive not heard that comment yet this hear 😘🤪

LMSC What’s your tamper size please?
Afaik 54.7 but will check.
On a night out tonight
Too big for the acs basket, which i did know. Had been using a 54.4 for that and that was a sloppy fit in the ims comp basket.
Bravo is a good fit for the ims. Feels same as the 54.4 did in the acs.
Need to investigate but i feel the taper on the ims is slightly more than the acs as well . Mainly because at first glance when I store the puck screen in the basket its the same fit in the bottom of the basket as it has been in the acs basket….
Only had 4 cups so far but seems good.
Nothing ground breaking but i can see i dont have to concentrate any more whilst tamping!!!

How much disassembly do you do for the cleaning

This is coffeebollox in its finest glory. That is to say, things that make perfect sense on paper but in reality affect the taste by 0.000000000000000000000000000001%
It certainly isn’t for people that cant even taste basic flavor notes!
Thata me out on 2 counts 😎💥

Adrianmsmith Hardly. It just works
The coffee would hide between the top of the base and the bottom of the handle. A few seconds to brush them off. 😊

Who is it for then? The very few super tasters that claim to exist, or the plentiful ego driven people who imagine owning something like this will improve their coffee
dfk41 well, I can certainly see the meditation is working, Dave. :D
This was originally a commissioned product, sought after by someone who wasn’t happy with the stock clip and screen (who am I to argue with them for that?). Now it’s being offered to others who may want it, perhaps for similar reasons, perhaps for others.
It is fairly obvious the price excludes die-hard skeptics, leaving those with disposable income or a purpose they can justify to themselves - could be that some people care about the stock screen and spring not fitting well enough for good wetting of the puck - I’ve had nasty lop-sided extractions occur in that situation, and I don’t enjoy messing around with the circlip (something Jake also mentioned). I’d like it to experiment with it, and will happily run with it if it makes my life a bit easier on the maintenance front.
