Yeah there’s a great selection of burrs at 80mm, second only to 64mm in terms of choice really plus not quite fully straying into the truly ridiculous pricing of 98mm. With the z2 and new Option-O grinder now announced I’d expect to see more including some kind of Df style 80mm grinder released soon.

An informed comment on that other site points out Mazzer do not make an 80mm burr, thus an 80mm Philos is unlikely. Sorry, Adrian ;-)

What I would love to see and would immediately purchase would be an 80mm Niche Duo. For me that would be end-game.

The Influencers seem rather conflicted about its place in the home environment but possibly, it’s smaller than a popular 85mm grinder offering 🤪

Cuprajake yes, 80 is the new 64. However, no one has the workflow and the easy burr change that Niche does. Anytime I think about a new grinder I realize how much I appreciate Niche. Just wish I could purchase an 80mm version..

Adrianmsmith Ah, yes but I am solely interested in 80mm. I keep coming close to ordering a WUG and then I look at Dan changing burrs and think, not bad, but not a Duo.

It looks good and the size is right and the price is sane. Includes their Mizen burr but can be changed to others. I wonder if it will have any of the stalling issues that seem to happen with their other products. Burr change – well it’s no Duo ;-) tbc next message due to formatting problems

The Option O is the most affordable; the WUG the most versatile for very little more (and never stalls). I am absolutely spoiled by Niche though for workflow and burr swaps.

We will not definitely know if we are moving to the EU before late Spring. Until then, new electrical purchases are on hold. When we do know, if no new Niche is on the horizon, we will purchase a WUG and sell both of our Niche grinders and our Fellow Ode too (but retain our hand grinders ;-)

The changes in the grinder market this last decade amaze me (in a good way).

Yeah very surprised how competitively priced it is, yeah it’s a shame more grinders don’t make it as convenient as the Duo to swap burrs out and I’m surprised there hasn’t been more borrowing the design

FadedFrontiers I do not think it is patented, and if not, I am entirely at a loss as to why no one else has done so. My fingers are crossed that a Niche Duo 80 will appear next year ;-)

BrendaninBrooklyn Whats the fascination with 80mm? The Duo is 83mm and uses recognised Mazzer burrs. I am sure that others have successfully swopped them out. I cannot imagine 3mm making much of a difference when it is the cut and design of the burrs which is much more important. A more logical step would be to explore the 98mm market which has little competition. The burr set that gets very little mention is the 75mm burr that features in the Eureka Mythos. I am probably wrong but in the back of my mind a little birdie tells me that these grinders originally used 75mm burrs made by Mahlkonig where as now they are made in house. Eureka make 75mm available in a few grinders across their range but they tweak each burr set to the individual grinder. This is to accommodate torque and the like. All the 75mm burrs will fit their range but they cut them differently meaning a Mythos burr will produce a different result in a 75mm Atom when compared to the Mythos
