ChristosC MediumRoastSteam If you can tell the difference of a cup made with 0.3g of coffee retained, you have amazing tastebuds. I certainly don’t, but I am just expecting a product to do what it says on the tin.
MediumRoastSteam ChristosC yeah. I understand. Sadly, it’s not Zero… well, it might be if you round down to the nearest integer rather than up. 😉
Cuprajake I don’t get the fasination with all the zero retention. No grinder is zero retention, there’s exchange somewhere down the line. Can we taste 0.5g in a brew, I’d argue basket prep, temps, pressure have much more influence on shot.
DavecUK Cuprajake The biggest mistake Niche ever made was to mention zero retention, because obviously….that’s impossible. There isn’t a grinder on this earth, and never will be that’s zero retention. Actually that’s not quite true, only a grinder that’s never been used is zero retention.

We are used to a Footlong sandwich not being a foot long, a Tuna sandwich not made out of tuna etc. I’d say with Niche Zero maybe more people are happy with the very low retention than those who bought it and feel they were tricked by a false name?
Mark-drinks-coffee dutchy101 It could be worse, if you go too literal, you might order one and nothing turn up at all 🤣🤣 Or perhaps one where you weight ‘X’g in and 0g come out?
MediumRoastSteam Mark-drinks-coffee Or perhaps one where you weight ‘X’g in and 0g come out? I was using Roman numerals. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😜👍
ChristosC Doram Thanks for the advice re the bellows. But I think that I will follow @MediumRoastSteam’s advice and will stop worrying about those minor inconveniences😁
Doram ChristosC Doram Thanks for the advice re the bellows. But I think that I will follow @MediumRoastSteam’s advice and will stop worrying about those minor inconveniences😁 Whatever works for you. I use the bellows because it stops the coffee drop on the base, not because I worry that 0.2 grams will make a difference in the cup. I didn’t like to have to clack the lid to get rid or it, and I often got the drop even after clacking. The bellows solved this, so that works for me.
CafeNoir Doram FWIW, I just replace the dosing cup on the base immediately after putting ground coffee into filter….if I don’t….. then I totally get it, lol
CoyoteOldMan simonc Remineralisation is easy and cheap. Just need to decide what you want in there… I’ve experimented with MgSO4 and KHCO3 as well as MgSO4 and Ca citrate (“low sulphate” recipe) so far. I prefer the Mg + Bicarb recipe. @Rob1 ’s spreadsheet is a great resource: Water Spreadsheet/calculator
CafeNoir Not a big delivery but kinda pretty. Wanted cups with artwork, Illy art cups are stupid money in Oz….
prezes Another dosing ring yet perfect this time. Finally I can stand and grind straight to the portafilter. Tall as the one I normally use but with a cut out allowing it to sit properly.
CoyoteOldMan prezes Is that a Vesuvius or an Evo? Particularly if the latter, do you mind sharing where you got the ring from, please?
