Knluk CoyoteOldMan brilliant. If you don’t mind, I just have some beans (signature and Fudge) from rave after resting. So we can test drive on it. Will take this to email. Appreciate that.
Knluk Eiffel thanks for the very informative feedback. That totally solved the questions which I read briefly but did’t really understand whether it is a real concern.
Knluk Btw is the height of the body 50cm or 41cm? Acs website says 50cm but the website below shows 41cm. 41cm I can fit in the bench. But if 50cm, I need to put it on the island and have the back of the machine facing the living room, which will require complicated my domestic planning approval. https://www.springlever.ro/en/produs/coffee-machine-acs-vesuvius-evo-lever--961/
LMSC Knluk the height of the body 50cm or 41cm? Please add another 35cm for the lever handle Knluk domestic planning approval. ?
DavecUK In the steam boiler of a few early evos. the hot water output tube was raised higher in the boiler for some reason, which meant you couldn’t get as much water out as you could in a Minima (which are the boilers of choice for the Evo). I think 8 machines or possibly 16 were made like this. That was a long time ago now, 1 year perhaps. The machines since, all use exactly the same boiler spec for the service boiler as the Minima. It only affected the amount of hot water out, and hence the ease of descaling (solved by drain valves some people fitted to the service boiler) It had no effect on steaming power…which is awesomely more than you will ever need.
CoyoteOldMan DavecUK which is awesomely more than you will ever need I (and the kitchen walls) can attest to this…
Knluk DavecUK For the effect on ease of descaling, is there other workaround besides fitting a drain valve? It sounds not very easy to fit a valve for people not familiar with coffee machine.
CoyoteOldMan Knluk The service boiler now (after the first 10? 20? machines) drains almost completely through the water tap. Fitting the drain valves is easy - honest, guv: https://coffeetime.freeflarum.com/blog/885-vesuvius-evo-leva-installing-drain-valves-on-the-boilers. Even easier is to use non-scaling water (bicarbonate only, or citrate + bicarbonate). If absolutely everything else fails, it just takes a bit longer to descale.
Cuprajake Yeah, use water that doesn’t scale, I use the Dr pavlis water, which will never scale. Water after the machine and grinder is the most crucial thing.
Cuprajake Here’s a vid of the unity blend from cast iron Still on the look out for a strawberry Honduras again
CoyoteOldMan Cuprajake @LMSC seems to have found a strawberry Colombian - posted yesterday on the “Evo” thread.
LMSC CoyoteOldMan Cuprajake If meant to be there! Honduras is Don Pancho, is it not ? Raspberry Jam, Prosecco and passion fruit. If Prosecco comes out well, I think the fruity notes are likely to relegated to the background.
LMSC CoyoteOldMan strawberry Colombian That was Foundry roaster’s Columbian. Strawberry and craft chocolate were the main flavours there; quite distinct! In Honduras, I would struggle to pick and differentiate Raspberry and passion fruit, given Prosecco. If Jake can’t on his flat, forget the conicals! 🤣 Edit : Don Pancho and Mandela Washed are in the post. I am looking forward to Mandela as it is a very light roast! 😊
Cuprajake Ah,. I may try that. The strawberry was this Carlos Alfredo. Was like a campino. I may look at the foundry, it sounds like octopus new bermudez though.
LMSC Cuprajake Honduras - Tropical fruit, blackcurrant and strawberry. Good luck with strawberry mate! 🤣
LMSC Cuprajake foundry They mostly roast medium, though I find the bags skewed to the right. I ordered their Washed Columbian today. You may also look at the Rwandan, and Kenyan. Not sure, if you would like their Colombian Jairo - very prominent cherry balsam flavour.
LMSC Cuprajake Ah,. I may try that. Your Mandela bag is different, I think. I don’t think it’s washed, or is it?
LMSC Cuprajake Those Octopus bags are nicely priced compared to some of the expensive ones from other roasters. Which one of the Octopus would you recommend please ? It’s needs to be for filter and espresso. :-)
CoyoteOldMan Cuprajake I had the octopus Alfredo. Thats the one that was full on strawberry Now, read that out of context for a moment, and visualise it. I wish I was better at drawing so I could portray a cephalopod in butter and cheese sauce, resting on a bed of strawberries.
