Anybody got a Bullet R1?

Got it in Nov 2021 and since then never went out and bought any beans for myself (Sadly green beans is being sold in the 60kg and 24kg sizes locally but I am setup for like 2 years atm).

Steep learning curve but well worth it.

Otaibimn Worth remembering, unless pentapacked or vacuum packed, they deteriorate. Might be worth advertising in classifieds for a bean split or thirds, with people near enough to drive to you.

DavecUK cheers dave, they are pentabacked and the 24kg (which I prefer) come in 4 packages of 6kg air sealed.

Got little air tight containers from ikea that hold 6kg each… Makes it a lot easier to sort them out.

Yep I have one. Happy to answer questions. I typically buy 2kg lots. Sometimes as much as 10kg in which case I will freeze them until ready to roast.

tompoland If vacuum packed, 1.5 years if unopened and if Pentapacked 5-7 years….and are thought to improve with age!

I’ve definitely found when opening a Pentapck, the beans can be a litttle “green” for a while.

tompoland While I agree that book can be reference.

I got beans in a sealed and not vaccumed in a simple ikea container going strong for over 6 months. They are even 18 months after harvest.

Green beans if kept in a dry, cold and dark location can last for a very long time.

Just keep them away from bug infested areas.

Adding to this, how the heck would we, as buyers of small lots, know when the beans were harvested. None of the lots I have bought ever had a harvest date on them.

I guess you don’t although if the turnover of beans is good from the supplier, they should be current crop. The paperwork that comes with the beans should tell you, but I guess they don’t give that.

DavecUK They don’t like to give that info.

Guess small lots don’t give much info. When you buy 60kg, there is always a harvest date.

          tompoland Let’s talk recipes

While each bean is different in roast profiling, I am getting some seriously decent roasts on this profile:

I start with this profile and then start playing around with the profiling (increasing or decreasing roadt time).

The Aillio is extremely versatile, want more body? Increase the fn… want fruity notes? Let the fan as minimum as possible.

          6 days later

Started Playing around with drum speed and stopped following the ROR declining method (Think it fits Espresso more than filter).

Started thinking into the mentality of Phases more than an ROR is paramount, it helps but just another factor.

Mild soaking at the start to even out the beans, Fast burnout through the green phase, declining power during the yellowing and just enough juice to keep the development time decent after FC. Drum speed is increasing through out.

          Smells glorious.
