dfk41 Having looked into this topic a bit more, the base machines require you to make a batch of cold brew, pour it into the machine where you inject the gas. But it gets complicated. If you use Nitrogen 2g capsules you need 2 of them per brew at around a quid each. You can use nitrous oxygen which only need one and are cheaper but it affects the bubble quality! The Growler Ukeg is a much more robust system using a 10:1 ratio, so thats 120 gms of coffee for their 1.2 litre size. You get 4 brew bags needing two per brew. You make the brew in the keg for 18 to 24 hours at room temp, double that is in the fridge. Remove the grinds and bin the bags and inject. I do not think for me, that this is viable. Here is a link to the cheapest one I could find, then to a better one! https://www.vevor.co.uk/coffee-airpots-c_10693/nitro-cold-brew-coffee-maker-2l-mini-keg-tap-faucet-brushes-hose-tool-kits-p_010880055922?gclid=Cj0KCQjwnNyUBhCZARIsAI9AYlEIqm6qr53HcFPsVX5xJqklDj3Yd6pmUkbYzUUVef6fVqTWFk7zpNEaAtlzEALw_wcB I have seen this one on Ebay for £100 plus £6.95 delivery and here is a decent explanation video
hthec Del_UK would recommend. started out as a tiktok trend, turns out it’s not a bad one. I have a couple of huge crystal mugs I use for this. Looks really impressive when served to friends. great fun! Add sugar to taste
Del_UK DavecUK Espresso (double), 6 ice cubes (120g) and 90g of water works for my glass. In a pitcher, steam for about 15-20 seconds, stopping while there’s still ice in it. Makes a Guinness textured iced coffee.
dfk41 Del_UK Well, I tried! I used your measurements exactly and luckily enough had a suitable glass. I used a bean that I found in the back of the cupboard. It was roasted before Xmas then vacuum packed. It was abundant with blueberry but not quite so much now! Tomorrow I will try it with something darker and fresher! I have just realised that my son has an Oxo Good Grips cold brewer so he can make the brew up for me. With fathers Day fast approaching I might get my two sons to buy me the Vevor Nitro maker and have a bash!
cjbailey1 Del_UK Well my first attempt! Annoyingly my shot wasn’t the best as it was my first pull on new beans and it came through a little quicker than I’d like, but it was still tasty. I think I may try 60:30 milk:water for the next one. Thank you for the suggestion! Ps. Excuse the total mess in the background.
tompoland Similar idea to the Nitro but using sound waves (“harmonics” is the word the manufacturers use) to extract the coffee. Works incredibly well. YouTube video shot around 3 months ago…
hthec tompoland Don’t tell me you have this too! It’s on my wishlist, but will probably always remain no more than a wishlist item
LMSC We follow a couple of methods to make cold brews Classic espresso on the rock. Tip either cold Osmio Zero water or Oat milk, if demanded. My family prefers it with milk As above but whisk it in a blender or mixer. I prefer a whisked cold coffee.
LMSC This is what I had come up with ….decaf 16.2g : 34.8g liquid : 60 ml milk for my wife! Steamed for 7-8s. Of course, plenty of crushed ice into the pitcher before steaming.
Doram MediumRoastSteam Tried it today…. Surprisingly good! Made this back in February, but found that it looks better than it tastes. Maybe it was also the wrong season? :)
