In a never ending search for roasters and beans and my constant forgetting I thought it may be good to have a thread where we can all post what we have and use and flavour notes and if they come through I often struggle to remeber what I've had and seen on here Apologies if there's a thread like this

Excel is the best way to keep it alive. Am happy to create one and share - what I liked and didn’t - some time next week. Just a simple file and nothing complicated. @"DavecUK"#1 may perhaps load that on the server so that users can add their preferences. Not sure, how it will work though

Crankhouse from Exeter are really nice people and produce some awesome coffee too! Rave are my go to big roaster. I also used to get some from Roastworks but they keep pushing those stupid pollution pods (Nespresso) and I morally hate those things.

Yeah used crafthouse and crankhouse before. My go to has been north star.

I've been keeping the following for a while. As you can see, most of my coffee has come through Dog and Hat, but I've noted the original roaster and then use this to trawl go direct to roasters for a top up. I have a tendency to mark highly because I tend to go for beans I know I'll like, so it's rare I come across something I really dislike. LMSC have you ordered either or both El Placer offerings? Let us know how you get on. Both are outstanding. My favourite is the purple which so fragrantly jasmine floral. It’s not cheap but the quality is out of the zone.

Systemic Ordered the pair of El Placers along with the Yirgacheffe. I am not a great fan of Ethiopian as I had always struggled with the taste! Let’s see. 😁

LMSC good choice. Just Switched the Yirgacheffe. Balanced lemon acidity - pleasant but the Placers are in a league of their own.

Yeah. Not cheap but for the wow factor I’m getting - worth it. Always wary of expensive beans not delivering.

I’ve had quite a few recently that fell short of expectations

Cuprajake Couple of years ago, DFK sent me some Wush Wush at Christmas that was excellent so the following Christmas ordered some when it became available with high expectation. It was expensive and utterly disappointing. So, it’s nice when some beans that are on the pricey side deliver in the cup. Notice that Darkwoods lean towards light roasting which is, of itself, potentially problematic with under-development being chief unless you get it spot on.

There is always a risk. I consider Crankhouse a safe bet, if one restricts to their 150g tin offerings, which mostly fall on the lighter side. They don’t mention what the roast is though.

Could some one recommend a few good roasters based in the US please?

One of best friends drinks black coffee, mostly brews. Would prefer fruity coffee as not a fan of chocolate and nutty flavours. The family lives in Princeton.

LMSC Linea who are based out of San Francisco is hands down the best roaster in the US and I won’t hear anyone tell me otherwise

LMSC September are really good, I just bought some from them recently. Also sey and prodigal have some great stuff. H&S coffee and S&W coffee are both said to be fantastic but they don’t ship to the UK so I haven’t tried much from them personally

LMSC I’d like to check out Memli coffee, as well. Mainly because he puts himself out there with brew recipes and shares his roast and water parameters etc.

Robti just use their guides, they usually say whether they recommend espresso brewing. I think it’s a matter of personal taste but their core range should all go well with milk, maybe their more expensive ranges should be drunk without milk but even then I’m sure anything they class as medium roast ⅗ would work
