I only have milk drinks but it’s often assumed that you need darker beans to go with milk but I prefer more medium roasts with some acidity still present. I think it’s difficult to recommend specifics as we all have different tastes
That said, I really enjoyed some beans I got cheaply from Rave recently, so much so that I’m going to buy a full kg once I’m through my current stock. I wouldn’t have bought them if they hadn’t been cheap but they’re the best I’ve had for a long while. Conversely, I bought a couple of bags from another roaster recently which sounded good but have both been really disappointing.
Death wish coffee beans my good man
Cuprajake The Odd Coffee Company? The coffee is perfectly good enough for milk based drinks and great value
I had black cat chocolate point last time but it was a bit roasty I ordered some North star Brazilian this time round but that may be the last from them for a while
Has an email the Brazilian is going up 40% and the others 20% in price, that makes a huge difference over the 1kg bag which was £26.

Grahamsphillips might give that a whirl given I’m medium milk based . Gather they don’t have the actual roast date on them if it’s repackaged?
My favourites - all fairly local to me - are:
Pharmacie: mostly micro-lots so you buy, drink and then move on to something else.
Cast Iron
Coffee Real
Liquid Spirit

Serendipity is a wonderful thing. Last week, trying to find Grindsmiths in Manchester, happened upon a newly opened coffee shop on Deansgate - can’t remember the name. Ordered a V60 of El Placer purple fruits and was knocked out - one of the best pour overs I’ve ever had so ordered some of each offering. Both are really good but the purple is out of this world. You get jasmine floral notes on steroids with sweet honey and a long finish. Darkwoods roast lights so if you are considering trying either, you might find making espresso a bit more challenging. That said, the beans are very evenly roasted - not a hint of under-development.
@LMSC The three offerings from Atkinson’s were excellent.
Both Darkwood’s Colombian El Placer offerings - Yellow and Purple fruits are visibly lighter roasts. Happy to report roast is very even - no scorching or hints of under-development. I’ve refracted both offerings with the EKs set at its coarsest setting and been able to tweak extraction yields to the 20% mark give or take half a percentage point. It’s a bonus finding very light roasts without having to go abroad to get them. Darkwoods kindly enclosed some freebie Yirgacheffe which I’ve just inspected. Roast level is also very light.
LMSC Dark Woods
Dark Arts or Dark Woods? First time I hear about the latter - website doesn’t seem convincing.
MediumRoastSteam The pair of El Placers are amongst the best coffees I’ve ever had.
