Mazzer make good burrs.
Decent De1pro v1.45 - Niche Duo - Niche Zero - Decent is the best machine ever made -
I swapped out the Italmill burrs for Mazzers on the DF64 and it has been a huge improvement
I changed the burrs in my major to SSP. .
Would I do it on a grinder like this prob not as it would make it over a grand.
I hate bellow, that’s why I got rid of my wong doserless kit.
I now use a brush, so I grind, brush purge. It’s a bit of a faff. Esp when it’s next to my niche which is a case of grind and you’re done. 🤷

LMSC 25% VAT and tax on top
In terms of import taxes, given the burrs are made in the EU, should they charge any other import duties other than VAT at 20% for the UK?
I haven’t checked or imported anything from the EU since he UK left the single market, so I’m curious to know how rules are being applied.

Very messy area!
There is also a complex rules of origin complicating the matter.

The import duty isn’t a lot. I think it will be about 3% - 5%
Here is the relevant thread.

LMSC - thanks. But my point was whether there should be any import duty for something which is manufactured in the EU, I.e.: SSP burrs. I understand VAT is chargeable.
Edit: thanks for the link to thread. So no import duty, only VAT plus some shipment flat fee.
MediumRoastSteam So no import duty
Jake’s invoice showed a duty tax of £11, which is 5.74% of the notional £191.53.
LMSC There shouldn’t be duty. DHL charges £11 as customs fees, but it’s their admin cost.
LMSC - That’s not import duty, as that’s set to 0% clearly in the invoice. That’s most likely currier admin fee and nothing to do with HMRC.
Key is in the labelling: Customs Charge (yellow box) and Extra Charges (red box)
From the thread:
I just received a DF83 at the beginning of the weekend. This is an upgrade to my Baratza Virtuoso+. The primary thing I was looking for was a stepless grinder, as the Virtuoso+ is stepped, and I didn’t feel that I had as fine control over the grind as I needed.
There’s an option for ordering the DF83 with SSP high uniformity burrs, but the delivery time was going to be very long. The DF83 would have been shipped to the distributor (I’m in the US), and they would install the SSP burrs once they received them, and then it would be shipped to me. Instead, I asked them to ship me the stock grinder, and my plan was to install the SSP burrs myself once they arrived. At this point, the results are good enough that I’ve canceled the SSP burr order until I have more experience with the stock burrs.
So far, I like it a lot. It only took a few attempts before I was making espresso that is really close to what I want. Still need to get more experience with it, but I’m quite happy so far.
BTW, a common criticism of the DF83 is that the power cord comes out the side, not the back. The reason for this is that there’s a large capacitor at the back of the base that’s in the way of the power cord coming out the back. If the power cord was to come out the back, the base would have to be quite a bit larger and/or taller than it is. Here’s how I’ve dealt with the power cord coming out the side.

Looks like people don’t have much to criticise then. If that’s a common criticism… these people need to chill out. 🤣😉👍
I’m pretty sure my Eureka Mignon had the cable coming out of the side. Same as the La Pavoni.
Let us know how you get on, specially around exchange retention.
SSP Vs stock mazzer burr
The SSP are no better than the stock, they just alter the flavour profile.
I’ve been going back to back recently and I’ve found the SSP pronounce the fruit and the acidity.

I think the DF83 comes with Italmil burrs (like the DF64 / Solo) as stock and not Mazzer burrs. I upgraded my burrs on the Solo to Mazzers and it was a great improvement. I’d recommend upgrading to Mazzer burrs on the DF83 if the stock burrs are Italmils
MediumRoastSteam I immediately switch off (😬) whenever the location of the power button, the cord or any other inconsequential things are used as criticisms of machines. Subjective things like design and workflow are a matter of personal preference and they affect everyone differently
wilburpan thanks for the write up of the machine, have you tried it for filter yet?
Ugh I dislike his videos/reviews. I just never believe a word he says. I think the more interesting grinder is the DF64P to be honest
