TBH this is the first I have heard of the Zero… so currently reading the 40 page thread at the other place. Being in hard water Kent - it could be a useful solution to go with the water softener!

@"MattH"#p37622 I recommended osmio to a friend of mine who lives in Swanscombe their tap water is pretty hard, filters last him 5-6months, I think he can get another month or two with resetting the unit but I told him to try hard water filters next time, they are £5 or so more expensive but might last longer. They are really happy with osmio. We live in a medium hard water area and our filters last more than a year. We are also really happy with it, been 2.5 years. Only time we needed kettle was to fill a hot water bottle:)

@"Inspector"#p37637 Top tip If he **empties** and refills the Osmio when there is about 1.5 to 2 litres left instead of letting it completely run down before **emptying** and then refilling…his filters will last much much longer! I have suggested to mark they have 2 small extension tube options made for the particulate filter in the tank for very hard water areas…say a 1.5 and a 2 litre

Ok I am in for one if this goes ahead…. White or black now is the decision to make :) I think sorting my water is more important than which Machine to buy at the moment.

Please note, that if you live in a hard water area its important to descale these approx every 3 months. The white finish is more durable than the black if that helps

If it helps, I'm in a hard water area and mine has been running nearly 12 months with the hard water filter and doing great. We use it for daily drinking water, filling the Minima and occasional hot drinks, filling the tank probably twice a day at a minimum. For the price it's a great deal with sanitisation kit too (which I should probably get on its own). @"OsmioWater"#43 - Mark, any chance of a deal on some filters as mine will probably need doing in the next month or two 😁

Out of interest, does anyone know how much (in a v.hard water area) it costs per litre of filtration?

Igm45 I use the hard water filters due to my Anglian Water region being relatively hard and roughly filtered about 4,400 litres on my first set. I average about 12l a day and had it just over a year before my change I’ve just done. So that would work out at roughly 1.4p/l.

The cost/litre would depend on wether or not you changed then at the Osmio recommended period of 6 months or used then until TDS readings indicated they were exhausted. The longer left in service the cheaper per litre the ave water cost is

Alexvs Have you used normal filters before the hard water ones? If yes how long they lasted?

Inspector No I didn’t, I just felt it wasn’t worth it as they wouldn’t last as long and the cost benefit would be lower due to there only being £5 I think between them. Also when I ordered my refurbed unit direct from Osmio, I requested hard water filters to be fitted as my first set which they were happy to do.

Might be interested. Looked at this during an offer back at the old place and got as far as deciding to get one, but on asking Mark about my very hard water here, he didn’t seem that convinced that it was the right solution for me. I need to dig out the old emails and am a bit time-pressed right now. Not sure I can get in before offer time limit expires. So if anyone else wants slot 3, go for it. Meantime, I’ll see if I can dig out the mails (I don’t remember exactly why he seemed uncertain it was right for me).

2.585 mmol/l Millimoles

It’s performed perfectly and we refill on average 3 times a day and only swapped filters after 12 months using the hard water filters.

According to water company, based on that “total” figure, this is “very hard” according to the “recognised classification scheme” they used. Figures above are current.

Either way, I quoted the figures at the time (similar to those but maybe not identical) and Mark didn’t seem … comfortable. IIRC, he felt some pre-processing would be preferable. Softening, IIRC. But I don’t remember exactly how he phrased it. It just felt like he thought it wasn’t necessarily a good idea, and would drive filter costs (if I remember right) up quite high.

So I’m looking at what water I use as I’ve just got a new machine. The entire water topic is totally new to me and quite frankly baffling :) I may start a new thread for this but before I do I will ask here.

I’m currently using Ashbeck which I now have visions of eating through my boiler! So anyway, o will change, but to what? Maybe temporarily Lockhills but I’d prefer to not be on bottled water ideally.

I was going to go with a zero water jug and remineralise. This seems somewhat straight forward.

The Osmio seems quite expensive in comparison, however it seems filters are lasting a year Ish, which would mean it would cost something like £75ish per year if I’m right? Would I have to remineralise the Osmio water or is it just all very plug and play? That would be a selling point for me.

Skuma also looks quite good especially with the coffee recipe thingy.

caffeinated-carp Plug and play for me - i fill a jug and fill the micra 😂 - it has a block which adds back to the water as part of the process.
