  • Timemore grinders 078s, 064s and 064

I have recently been made aware of the Kickstarter campaign from Timemore, which will launch soon.

What they promise vs the price looks almost too good, and I wanted to ask if people had any experience with their products, especially the 078?

I am looking for a grinder upgrade from my sage to use with my Lelit Elizabeth, and upcoming 064s looks interesting to me.

Doram Not sure how relevant it is, but I have their scale and I’m very happy with it.

I have their scale as well (the Nano). The main benefits for me were price (â…“ of the Acaia Lunar), accuracy and speed (ie no lag). I also like the form factor (sleek, thin).

But the adjustment buttons are poorly designed. And Espresso Mode can stall, particularly in slow running shots. It arbitrarily decides that the shot has ended, when it didn’t. Auto-tar also has issues. The standard mode works well. Just be sure to tar every time.

So, it handles its basic functions well, but not the additional features.

The above may well apply to other Timemore products.

JHCCoffee But the adjustment buttons are poorly designed. And Espresso Mode can stall, particularly in slow running shots. It arbitrarily decides that the shot has ended, when it didn’t. Auto-tar also has issues. The standard mode works well. Just be sure to tar every time.

If you are referring to the scale automatically starting the timer when it detects the weight change, I find this pointless because the only time I’m interested in, if any, is from when the pump is activated, not when the coffee hits the cup, so I don’t use it (I did try it once when I got my scale and it worked just fine).

I’m happy with the scales because they are accurate, fast enough for me, build quality is excellent for the price (in my opinion) buttons always work first time, device is solid, drips are no problem, it’s all flat with no nukes and crannies to catch dirt and grime so very easy to keep clean, battery lasts a long time and is rechargeable via USB-C. Those scales do everything I want them to do, and for the ~£30 I paid for them on AliExpress they are fantastic value in my opinion. If Timemore grinders are as good as their scales (and of course, I don’t know that they are), I would have no hesitation to recommend the brand from my own experience.

I have never used an Acaia Lunar, but I don’t see much point in comparing a £30-40 scale to a £250-300 one (a bit of a lunacy, imho). I also assume that the average person who is interested in Acaia Lunar scales will not be the typical buyer of a Timemore grinder.

        Doram
Agreed. It’s a good scale for the price. It’s the best of the lower priced scale heap. After that you are into an Acaia, which I agree is just too expensive (for me, anyway).

Just that Timemore could have done some things better. Especially the buttons, which are unduly sensitive and badly placed. And the Espresso mode, which sometimes fails to start weighing or stops weighing inadvertently. The standard mode works just fine. And it would be great if their scale paired with a logging app, as their other scales apparently do.

I guess you can’t have everything. Its still a great value.

Just not sure I would buy a grinder from them. I guess it boils down to price and (for me): 1) burr quality and alignment, 2) overall build quality, and 3) ease of use.

I initially bought a Eureka Mignon Specialita and soon after sold it, to buy my NZ. It was worth every penny I put into the NZ. I now have two (one for City and one for the Cottage). It was a stretch to buy my initial NZ and Lelit E (my wife complained about it for a while), but I am absolutely happy it and glad that I stretched abit. Next up is to replace my cottage Breville DuoPro, with a Lelit E. Or?

JHCCoffee Just that Timemore could have done some things better. Especially the buttons, which are unduly sensitive and badly placed.

The buttons on mine are at the two bottom corners. Can’t think of a better position for them. Sensitivity is perfect for me.

JHCCoffee And the Espresso mode, which sometimes fails to start weighing or stops weighing inadvertently.

A useless feature (imo) that I don’t use. As far as I know mine works, but I don’t care if it doesn’t. It would be equally useless for me on a million dollar scale that works like a Swiss clock and is connected to a super computer.

JHCCoffee it would be great if their scale paired with a logging app

Can’t ever dream to want my scale to be paired with an app. It’s a scale…

JHCCoffee Just not sure I would buy a grinder from them.

I have a Niche, so I’m not buying a grinder from anyone. :)

JHCCoffee yeah I’m surprised they didn’t add on a cheap Bluetooth chip for the price that the nanos are selling for, feel like they’re missing a trick there. A small change to properly compete with Acaia, Felicita etc. and the higher end coffee scales, plus there’s so many apps out there you wouldn’t even need to develop your own at this point.

Hopefully someone has an opinion on this but i’m trying to figure out if I should get the timemore 078s…currently have a stock DF64…watched Kyle Roswell’s video and was conflicted when he said he thought the 064s was better for milk drinks which I primarily make, but thought the 78 had to be better overall…now wondering if getting SSP burrs for my DF64 would be better than getting the 078s?

You can always sell 078s if you dont like it for the same price and buy SSP’s for your df64 later on. I still think it is a bargain for £400.

[unknown] I would realistically be selling my DF64 if I were to buy the 078s to offset some of the cost of the sculptor, so not trying to have both per se

Why not just buy some Mazzer burrs for the DF64? I picked up a set for £28 off ebay about 9 months ago. I noticed a big improvementin the coffee for a relatively small outlay.

I was intrigued for a while but I’m genuinely not sure the SSP burrs would or could justify the difference in price

SSP will bring more acidity, and a tiny bit more sweetness, but they can un balance some cups, you will get more fines with them too

jaron77 I actually don’t know how df64 is so popular, I had quite a meh experience with it.

After upgrading to SSP hu the motor was getting warm after few shots and drifting grind settings because metal dilatation. Gushing shots when motor warm, chockers when got colder, without even moving the dial. 🤡

I love SSP HU in my mazzer major but I don’t think df64 can handle them well.

Petre tbf a major could probably grind concrete 😂😂😂

it’s really funny, we were deluged with Timemore videos, the kickstarter closed and suddenly where influencers were making regular videos…now nothing?

I guess there will be more videos when they start shipping. Not much more to say until then. The Timemore forums are very quiet as well.

Those who were willing to take the plunge have done so already, so more reviews aren’t going to help increase sales.
