Well, finally got around to completing my first roast today on the Cormorant this morning. Roasted a Kenyan from the Ndundu farm which I tried to keep on the lighter end. Definitely a learning curve - Found it a little difficult to keep a track of everything, so decided to just use Artisan to mainly look at what was happening with the temperatures. Don't have all the stats at hand but just now focussing on getting to grips with the machine. Dropped very soon after first crack (20 seconds) and visually happy with the results. Tried a quick cup and the acidity is nicely preserved and has very nice sweetness. Body at the moment feels a little thin but perhaps it needs a bit more resting. To be honest I probably should have dropped at 45 seconds but we will see how it develops over the week. I used 500 grams and came out with a weight loss ratio of 12.5%. Did 1 more cheeky roast before calling it a day for today. This time Cafe Granja La Esperanza's washed red bourbon. Dropped 1 minute 30 seconds after 1st crack. Apologies not the best quality photo. @"Cuprajake"#p42275 I really appreciate the message you sent me on Youtube asking me if I was okay. Didn't mean to scare you 🤣 To be honest my repair mod was not the best video…my main aim was to let people know there was a fix and that ECM are still a company you can trust.

A crude setup, but it works. Ventialtion works great. Majority of the smoke gets vented outside my window…the only smoke that remains is a when you open the roasting chamber to drop the beans. My open window and extractor fan get rid of any excess smoke. To be honest I get more of a roasting smell with the Kaffelogic. @"Beverast"#p42279 I own a cormorant too. Great roaster. If you can get an external cooling fan it makes life much easier between batches. The built in fan is fine, but if you plan on roasting more than one batch another cooler is beneficial.

Cuprajake - 1kg should not be overkill when roasting at home, specially when greens keep for a long, long time if properly stored. In fact, in terms of greens, buying small quantities every time end up costing significantly more if compared to larger quantities.

Cuprajake Another thing with roasting: You are better of understanding how a bean roasts and master it, hence why 1kg (or even 2kg) is not a bad idea.

If you have multiple beans on the go, you’ll never really work out what you need to do better to improve upon a certain type of bean.

Indeed! Of course, all relative to the batch size. In Jake’s case, 1kg would get him approx. 6 goes, which, based on my own experience, might not be enough as you describe above: you finally work out how to roast a bean, enjoy the result, goes back to the shop to buy more just to find out it’s no longer in stock! 👍😊😬

Cuprajake Yes have tried both batches I roasted - just sipping on one of them (Aeropress) just now actually. It’s fruity but have difficulty identifying exactly what fruit - notes are peach and mango but not sure I get that at the moment. The tropical fruit I get is more pineapple acidity. Personally I don’t feel the acidity is integrating with everything perfectly - feels like it needs to still settle down a bit somewhat. I get dark chocolate too. It’s a very similar profile to a couple of natural anerobic pink bourbons that I have from Nestor Lasso (El Diviso) minus the taste of vine leaves. It’s very good but for me needs to come together a bit more to create a bit more harmony and possibly needs more develpment time as the mouthfeel comes across as a little thin - Need to try it as an espresso tomorrow. I do look forward to roasting it on the Cormorant when I get it back.
