Seriously. How have we got to a point where an organisation bearing the name ‘Royal’ seems to have absolutely no obligation to provide a good service. Heck I’d settle for a mediocre service at this point. You know, where when they say ‘we’ll deliver your item today’ they actually do so.

Today’s rant is inspired by a parcel for work that got from Denmark problem free, and then somehow wasn’t able to make the 4 minute journey from the delivery office to my house when they said it would.

The other week I ordered a pair of glasses from Naples to the UK. It took about 18 hours door to door… with RM I can’t even seem to get a parcel across a couple of counties in any reasonable time.

They’ve lost countless parcels of mine and my other half’s.

What a complete shambles. Have they just given up or something?

Starting this thread for others to share their presumably terrible experiences.

Are you sure it’s not just a dodgy local postie? I never have issues but my postman is very good.

    Dusk

I think it’s deeper rooted. Our Postie seems good too but I think it’s the bit before it gets to him.

whinmoor85 I wonder why that is. Other private companies seem to consistently do a fine job.

It feels like royal mail hide behind the illusion of being a public service whilst actually being nothing more than a badly run private company which doesn’t have to compete and therefore it can get away with this ineptitude.

Definitely feels like they rest heavily on the perceived lack of competition.

Other services are actually pretty competitive (and reliable). I use DPD local sometimes and for packages it’s very reasonably priced.

What private companies exactly? Royal mail as bad as it has gotten recently is still a lot better than any private couriers…

CafeCalando Royal Mail remains the most reliable in my area. Evri on the other hand……

Yeah like many things I guess it is a postcode lottery, while some may have good experiences with particular private couriers in their local area there’s no way private couriers on a whole are better.

By private couriers do you mean the global services?

Perhaps it’s just my experience but RM aren’t even in the same league as FedEx/UPS/DPD/DHL. Not even close.

If you mean Evri/Yodel etc then yes that’s equally as bad but also somewhat expected given how little the drivers are paid.

Ernie1 I’m just talking private couriers operating in the UK on the whole, in response to:

james65477564 Other private companies seem to consistently do a fine job.

I’ve had mixed experiences with various couriers both UK-based and international but one thing’s for sure, they’re hardly consistently good. Take for example their Trustpilot reviews, I don’t see many high scores 😆

Funny I have had maybe a handful of issues with Royal Mail delivering to me over the years. DHL on the other hand…well they are seriously starting to annoy me. Waiting for an expensive parcel to arrive and they keep on “pinballing” it between the East Midlands and Manchester - it has been to Manchester twice now and seems to be stuck there now. It is so frustrating and I have already spoken with them multiple times last week. Something tells me I am not going to get this package. DHL Express..ppfftt!

It must be a regional thing! Everyone I know seems to have massive problems with RM but seems some people here have a better experience with them than with couriers.

Ernie1 Last Tuesday morning I sent a spare part next day before 13.00 and it cost me £7.65. It arrived on Thursday at 11.00.

I complained and got my £7.65 back today but they paid me by cheque so I just need to find a Nationwide Bank that’s still open.

I think the actual posties do a great job but as someone said earlier they’re trying to run a public service in the manner of a modern courier service and not always succeeding

Got to admit our parcel deliveries from Royal mail 99.99% have been spot on. Only once in all the years have I not received a parcel….coffee from Rave. I guess the person in the sorting office just couldn’t resist the smell.😋

Really surprised by this thread! We’ve had pretty consistently disappointing service for quite some time and first class service from couriers.

          Must be very localised!

i had a filter basket delivered, they couldnt deliver the first time as no one was home, second time round it magically fir through the letter box.
