The ridiculousness of espresso prep

I came across this short “Ridiculous” Espresso Workflow Ever #2″ #coffeegrinder #coffeemachine #espresso - YouTube , which is very popular. and not this only one, and not on youtube, you can certainly find those “viral” short videos almost everywhere (tiktok, facebooks)

If it is for fun, well, maybe (even though I don’t see any fun in that). The downside I can see of such videos is that it shows an overly complex process with many unnecessary steps. That would put off a lot of people wanting to get into espresso. Essentially me a few years ago when trying to get into audio, get overwhelmed and intimidated by the complicated and expensive component (preamp, filter, conditioner, cables etc.)

What are your thoughts on this?

Joke aside this is too much of a prep unless he likes the workflow more than coffee 😁

The irony is that I was not impressed with the flow of naked portafilter, it looked a bit on the fast side and this after so many steps

John_Yossarian Agree. Too many unnecessary steps which probably makes things worse. Having said that, the beans seem lightly roasted. I never get a good looking flow from these…With light roast, I don’t see any correlation between how the flow looks and how it tastes.

Emc2 I noticed the same, lightly roasted usually take finer grind to get the flow right. But all the spraying and everything else. I can understand why one would do it before grinding, but I struggle to see the point spraying the basket before getting the coffee in. Anyway, if he likes it this way I do not see anything wrong to stick with the routine.

wish this is more popular 10 cappuccino’s in 4 minutes 30 seconds?! - YouTube . or maybe a lesser version of it at home. Pulling an espresso can, and should be as simple as grind - tap - tamp and pull.
