I’m looking at a change and potential upgrade from the niche zero and interested in the above but as I’m thinking this will be the last grinder I get for a while, is the 83V any better over the 83 so keen to see others experiences and thoughts?! Cheers.
Df83 vs df83v

dang2484 I have not hears of many users singing the praises of either (apart from influencers). I know on another forum several members bought them and I expected them to flood the airwaves with positive chatter, but there is absolutely zilch. I think Bella Barista still have a couple of the Solo T64 variable speed grinders that come with genuine SSP burrs. One of our forum members listed one on here and also on Ebay…..remember, a grinder is basically a set of burrs so you are comparing Chinese burrs versus the widely regarded top range. I have not tried the DF range so any bias is just me being me
Have you considered the Mazzer Philos?
Quite a few people seem to be upgrading to that from the Niche Zero.
La Marzocco Linea Mini - Mazzer Philos
I owned both and 83v is miles better than 83 in terms of usage but still would recommend niche duo or Philos from my experience

dang2484 there’s issue with retention
On the Philos?
It’s by a margin the lowest retention grinder I’ve ever had.

HarveyMushman sorry on the niche. The zero holds loads of grounds inside and I’m forever whacking it out!! Lol
dang2484 I can’t say I didn’t like them. Each had good bits to it and a lot comes down to personal preference. I am not a big fan of the bellows and they can make things messy.
With niche and Mazzer you get the feeling of quality, thought through product.

I have a white DF83 with italmill and SSP HU burrs I will be putting up for sale soon if the OP is interested. London based.
(moved back to hopper grinder, Pico)
Happy birthday!
dang2484 Might this not be down to other considerations that the grinder? Meaning, things such as spritzing the beams, atmospherics and bean variety. I used a Duo for 2 years and never had a problem other than what you would expect. Perhaps the word retention is misunderstood. it used to mean grinds retained within the grinder that no amount of lid thwacking etc could shift. I do not personally consider retention to include what comes down the chute! Have you weighed the input and outputs? By this I mean if the exit chute is totally clear after grinding once it is not?
The 2 grinders i had i was glad sold quickly were sage smart grinder pro and df83. It was a gen1 mod’d to ion generator and metal declumper. So glad the duo came along!! A proper grinder my old china!!
Thats when you realise china had a vast spectrum of manufacturing ability and quality control, from designed in england and monitored for quality to made somewhere in china!
It doesn’t say designed in england or california on a df83🤣😭 but it’s definately made in china 🫣👺
Just my opinion, im not a blogger, influencer or reviewer. I just like a great latte!!
If your bella vouchers need to be spent the t64 (either if them!) (And don’t forget you need to make a phone call to find out about one of them) would most likely be a good starting point or something more elaborate, but thats where you’re a bit limited with Bella, depending on what you like.

dfk41 I do honestly like the Niche, and would consider it if they sold it at Bella!
Retention wise, I assumed it was what was retained after your dose went through but still got your in weight. If that makes sense. It’s a small amount, maybe .5-1g but I do wonder that would have been in my next shot and some bellows would help to get out rather than whacking it on the side or taking the chute. It’s not a deal breaker as I’ve had it for 5yrs!
Adrianmsmith thanks for the input. The China made is a good point, they can everything but not always very well!
I did read the threads on the t64, but wonder if I’ll notice a difference from the niches conical burrs to 64mm flats 🤔
I naively assume 83mm is better 😂
Ive read in the past, most likely on facebook that someone’s grinder x was losing .5g every shot.
They would not accept the point they were trying to get over about this bad grinder was actually impossible .
No, no, every shot was .5g light! So I said after 20 shots they all lose .5g. yes, definitely.
He really believed 10g was in there somewhere. I think he needed to spend more on a decent set if scales!!
So When you make your mind up do not believe everything you read outside of coffeetime forum ☕
(he had not stripped and cleaned the grinder between each shot 😜)
