Coffee pals:

My Elizabeth steam wand is leaking just a hair again after nearly 3 years. I do leave the machine on most of the day with the steam boiler on, so no surprise. I replaced the part and sadly it still leaks just a bit. That teflon bit on the end seems like it can’t do the job. I have some Viton coming and plan to modify the part. But a post on Facebook makes it look like that part has been changed. Is that true? I’m talking about the shaft with the teflon on the end.

OK, so I got the Viton 7 mm. I had to trim it to get it to fit. So I think perhaps 6 mm would be better. But it could be that the stuff I bought was rated “hard”. Perhaps I should have bought medium or soft? Testing now. Seems smooth with no leaking. We shall see. Thoughts?

dndrich - It’s hard for me to picture what you are trying to do. Do you have a picture? Are you replacing an o-ring? Are you modding the tap?

I am modifying the tap. At the end of the tap is a round teflon plug that seals against the fitting. It compresses too easily and is damaged so that it doesn’t seal and the steam leaks a bit. So I took the part out, dug out the Teflon plastic piece, and replaced it with a piece of Viton gasket stock that I bought and fashioned a bit to fit. I don’t have a photo but I can try to get one later.

Here is a snip of the parts diagram. It is part 2200075. The tip of it circled in red is the problem area.

Have you checked the seat area for any damage or nicks ?

The inside of that space is hard to inspect. I took a quick look and it looks OK. I cleaned with a q-tip. For now the Viton is working.

I did the same to mine over a year ago (had to find the previous thread to check!). It is still working perfectly and no drips at all.
