I have a Nextbase set up, front and rear cameras. They work fine except for one annoying thing…..the app is absolutely woeful! Unless I am sitting in the car I cannot view the library. My son has been round this morning and sorted out the app, so everything is now connected but I want to be able to sit in my front room and look at things the camera has recorded! Am I being stupid? Our car has a very steep windscreen and without sitting in the front seat space (which is removed for my wife’s wheelchair) the camera is virtually impossible to get to, for me anyway.
I wondered if any members could tell me that there system works better than mine I thought I had downloaded the files from the SD card to my phone but now I am back in the house it says no files available!

Can’t help as I have same camera and it’s hopeless like you say. 👎👎👎

I concur. Useless. And they reboot randomly (and stop recording!) - I have two, different batches, and they both have the same problem. I even spoke to their customer support who tried to solve the problem, but, because it’s intermittent, it went nowhere!

The easiest way to view any videos is to take the camera off from the base (it is only held by a very strong magnet) and connect to your PC via USB.

Useless piece of kit. Never had other brands, but it’s scary when NextBase is one of the best brands available out there!

I can ask my sister, she had a decent dashcam fitted and the footage came in very handy when she got deliberately rear ended

I am probably being a bit unrealistic with mine. I had the firmware upgraded but I can only view footage if I am sitting in the car. I spoke to a firm who recommended a dash cam with built in wifi that linked to a cloud service but fittd it was £680 plus a few quid a month for the cloud service. I no longer have a business to put it through so unless someone comes up with something to think about I will probably stay put. One thing that did annoy me was that when I went to the car and looked a little bit through the library there were chunks of time when there was nothing and then many of the files had a red padlock and I could not open them…..

SurreyAlan I find it easier to remove the SD card and copy any files I want to my PC indoors

Providing you have an SD card reader - which I don’t. The reason I connect the camera via USB to my PC instead. 😊

Also a good opportunity to apply any firmware updates.

The camera is positioned in a difficult place for me to get to. We have a converted van for my wife’s wheelchair so it is not set up for driver comfort! Yesterday after having updated the firmware recently, I tried to find a clip then download it whilst in the car using what they said was a high speed wifi link…….after 5 minutes it had managed to download 7% of a 200mb clip…..so I gave up!

Reading with interest as ive considered buying one.

IF the camera has wifi, cant it be connected to your home wifi and then be accessed by the app from inside the house. If so im in!! If not im same as David, that would be annoying.

About Me

Adrianmsmith I think that is the theory, but I live in a landlocked street with my garage some 30 or so yards away. I have given up, tbh! The amount of times that you need to download a clip is rare. If it was for accident reasons someone can always remove the sd card but that is not practical if you just want a peruse every now and then

Well..: major flaw in that approach.

    1. The camera has to be powered on, and it can only be powered on when the car is powered on.

    2. Wifi transmitters/receivers in such devices are often basic, slow and simplistic. Software often is subpar, and more importantly it leaves a lot to be desired in terms of coping with the sizes of the downloads - too slow, prone to broken connection, etc.

    3. They usually have a WiFi connection, but it’s a peer to peer network (I.e: the camera has its own network) rather than the camera being a device that is visible by your home router.

      Thanks.

Similar issue updating maps in the Peugeot 2008 i just sold.

Have to leave engine running and usb stick in for over an hour.

Tomtom unit at least updates as soon as i get on the drive!!

Leaving engine running with car on the drive is a pain!!

Maybe someone has another approach to this, but the only way I found was make sure the spare key is actually in your pocket. Open the drivers door window. Get out of the car with everything updating and the engine running. Lean into the car. Press the lock button, then press the window up button and leave it. The important part is ensuring the spare key is in your pocket before you do so to be able to get back in after the update!!! For security reasons, you cannot simply lock the door with the spare key when the engine is running.
