Flat Burr Grinder Recommendations

Petre Hi mate, yes there’s certainly an element of that all right, no matter how carefully I puff. A light coating on the grinder - and the puffer - that I find a bit annoying, very fine grounds that need brushing down afterwards. Just might try “your” duster.
On reflection, do you use at exit chute or (modded) as a hopper feed puffer?
Cheers, C

Edit… I’ve abandoned the Rocket air blower because the dusting was just not acceptable with SWMBO.
Now it’s just a brushing out chute with either an old toothbrush or paint brush and a quick secondary pulse, with about 0.2-0.3 gm retained…that I can live with. A lid on the hopper resists th
e fines “escaping” during grinding.
As an aside, it really does make me appreciate just how well designed and executed some grinders - my Niche for example, are.
Yeah I didn’t care for the blower.
I too brush

Otaibimn I’m not sure why you say the DF64 will not grind fine enough. I aligned mine with only two thickness of tin foil on stock TIN burrs. I am able to stall out my Evo Leva easily. But when grinding fine such as below 10 clicks above touch point I need to feed beans slowly so not to clog it an get consistent grind.
I will install the SSP HU shortly as I also think they are worth a try.

BBritton I was curious about this, I guess they’re saying the carriers are so badly aligned that you’re not able to grind fine enough. You can imagine that having the burrs badly out of alignment, you could end up with them having mostly a large exit from the burrs, even when touching.
I received my new DF64 this week the carriers are very badly aligned. I wouldn’t say any worse than a stock mazzer but it’s certainly not made as well as a Mazzer.

Newdent I guess you found out the hard way but the Mini funnel doesn’t fit the major.
I have a Super Jolly so the Mini funnel fits.
The shorter Mini funnel fits well on the SJ if using a dosing cup as it gives extra space to leave the cup in place.
The Major is obviously larger so the mounting points may be different.

Ernie1 oh my bad, I got mixed up with who bought the major. I had a major and mini at the same time at one point and tried the major’s funnel with the mini out of interest but it didn’t fit. I don’t think it was only the holes, the diameter was different.
Yours looks good, I’ve not seen that method for holding a cup before. I actually quite like the mazzers. If you’ve got some sort of single dose setup then they are almost as good as a DF64 in my opinion. The 64 is only better as it’s much nicer to adjust. The difference being you can pick up a used SJ insanely cheap. I’ve seen a few on for £60 to £70 on Facebook marketplace. Such a bargain!
Yeah I made the cup holder as I wasn’t using the PF fork. Works well!
I agree the adjustment is not at all easy on a Mazzer, but then I often just drink the same coffee for a kilo so I’m thankful it’s not easy to accidentally adjust. I suppose they’re commercial grinders so designed to withstand being knocked out of setting.
I just love how solid and robust Mazzers are and the abundance of parts due to their heritage and relatively unchanged design.
Probably not the ideal single dosing solution but perfect if you grind on-demand.
Newdent they did an published their results and recommendations here.

hthec I think people have been struggling with cast burrs, so would be surprised if this does well with them. The gorilla gear are quite a traditional geometry aren’t they? I’m sure they’ll be fine if so.
I’m actually not so keen on the aesthetics. I’m sure it’s probably the best performing grinder in a wind tunnel but I’d prefer to see it more angular, similar to the Weber Key. If they could work on the proportions a bit, even better. It’s interesting, that layout seems more prevalent with conical burrs, whereas vertically mounted flat burrs are becoming more common. I do like the look of the P64 but thinks it’s proportions are also off a bit, quite tall and slender. I’d just love a grinder that’s designed with out of the box alignment for that £500 mark. The kopi has at least produced a very good thing for a good price and proves it’s possible.

🤣🤣 took me a while to get it but that’s brilliant! I agree with you on the aesthetics of the Weber Key and the P64. WW leaves a bad taste in my mouth though, and if you happen to have an issue with your product it seems you’re s*** out of luck.
I was under the impression the Kopi Deva would have good out of the box alignment. Seeing some people struggle with their DF64’s, it’s become a major factor for me
