Does anyone else ever watch this guy on Youtube? If not, you probably should. At least, a few times.

What is he? Well, a lawyer (yes, really, genuinely) that picks locks.

If you haven’t watched him, I can almost hear some of you thinking … “Yeah, but …. so what?”

The thing to draw from his video’s, or at least what I draw from it, is just how truly pathetic the security features in most, and especially most common, mass-market, locks really are. And have been for a very, very, VERY long time.

There is also a video, which may not be on his channel, of a keynote speech he gave at a security conference and yeah, it’s pretty well done and entertaining as a speech, but he goes into some of the reaction he’s had over a few years from lock manufacturers with whom, it is safe to say, he isn’t flavour of the month.

Last time I looked, there was something like 1300_ videos of him picking locks. Yup, he’s been a busy boy. What type of locks? Everything from bike locks. to common front door looks (don’t watch those if you have a nervous disposition), to the locks used in many US police cruisers to secure shotguns and assault-type rifles, to the locks used when the US military decided locking their nuclear missile launch controls was probably a good idea.

Anyway, if you have a few spare minutes and want something to spend it on, give this a try. Be warned, though - it can be both addictive, and just a touch worrying.

I don’t follow him but I’ve seen them. Very impressive stuff and quite an eye opener.

For clarity, I don’tfollow him either, but I drop in from time to time.

To be honest, I don’t follow anybody on Youtube. I don’t even have an account. I don’t have, or want, any social media accounts. Note - I do belong to a small number of forums, which I don’t regard as social media, though it might be a grey line, or subjective definition. By “social media”, I mean Youtube, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Twitch, Discord and so on. I don’t, never have and most likely never will use, let alone have accounts, at any of that type of thing. I might, at some point, get a YT account …. maybe.

Social media, and ‘following’ most of the people on it is something that, at best, I find disinteresting, and in most cases, both pointless and an anathema. The LockPickingLawyer is an exception … as are Dave’s videos on YT.

Youtube can be different to there social media channels. There is so much content that there will definitely be stuff that is of interest to everyone. I do watch some of Lockpicking Lawyers stuff. Other favourites are -

This Old Tony - American guy that does machining and other manufacturing - funny and high production values

Project Binky - two guys that have been building a Mini out of a Toyota Celica for over 10 years - amazing attention to detail and amusing

Big Clive - Glasgow (Now IoM) guy mainly electronics - amusing too

Anyone Can Play Guitar - UK guitar tutor guy - slightly leftfield

Twofold - Canadian guitar repair guy - amazingly skilled

Uncle Doug - American guy, old experience amplifier repairs

I watch more Youtube than tv nowadays, Lock picking lawyer being one of my followed channels. If I remember correctly, he picked an assault rifle out of the boot of a squad car as if it wasn’t even locked.

Channels I follow tend to be coffee, World of Tanks, guitar, brass band or photography related.

I like so many, just a few are:

  • Big Clive
  • Lock Picking Lawyer
  • Mentour pilot
  • 747 Crew
  • Illinois Energyprofessor
  • Freakin’ reviews
  • Joe’s Classic Video Games (pinball repair n stuff)
  • TED
  • Wings of Pegasus…really good!!

DavecUK Definitely with you on “Big Clive” I shall have to investigate some of the others.
